Bret Griffin Will Change the Face of Galveston Texas
January 25, 2006 09:10 PM EST

Every once in awhile I see a superb candidate for a judge which inspires me to believe that the legal profession is getting better. Obviously most conservatives would agree that Samuel Alito is such a man, and I agree. Samuel Alito's came to prominence through hard work and years of progressively more difficult responsibility, but like all great judges at some stage in his life he made the decision to cross over from advocate to judge, and at that moment the stage was set for future greatness.

I have had the honor of practicing criminal law in Galveston, Texas, a Democratic stronghold in a Republican state. On occasion the Assistant District Attorney I opposed was Bret Griffin, a conservative Republican who was and is the most ethical and intelligent prosecutor I have had the privilege to meet. Today I learned that this inspirational lawyer is running for Judge of County Court 2 in Galveston, a seat which most likely has never been held by a Republican. If this former chief prosecutor of the 56th District Court and chief prosecutor of the Misdemeanor Division of Galveston County wins this seat, I believe that we will have witnessed the start of another superstar career in the legal profession. So at the same time that our attention is turned to the confirmation proceedings in D.C., I suggest we all look south to see a remarkable man begin his rise to greatness.
