If a violation of the law-a crime- goes unpunished then the law has no teeth and it shows that we don't take the crime all the seriously. Every year one million people enter this country illegally, that is they break the law to do it. Yet sending them back across the border to let them try again there is no punishment.
Hopefully this is about to change. New legislation would call for a seven hundred mile border fence and would make it a felony to enter this country illegally. Of course this has met with huge opposition from illegal immigrants and the people who's economic and political success depends on illegal labor of the latino vote. They marched, waved Mexican flags( they want our money but we know where there loyalties lie.) and said they want the same opportunities as everyone else. Well, I hope you will forgive me if I don't stand up and cheer for the rights of law breakers and their leftist, open border, bribe the Mexican vote allies.
Now to many this all sounds hypocritical. After all almost every American can point to some ancestor who immigrated to America. My family is no exception. My great grandfather came to America in 1905 from what is now Slovakia, and at that time Eastern Europeans weren't the most welcome of people. But there is a big difference between my great grandfather and the one million illegals who enter the country every year. My great grandfather did not break the law to come into the country. He also, unlike many who are coming over now, assimilated to American life. He learned english, he considered himself an American, not a Slovak living in the U.S.
The United States, like every other country on Earth, has the right to determine who can cross their borders and who can not. Yet the open border crowds propaganda neatly ignores this fact. To them the illegals are the poor huddled masses looking for a better life. When in fact many are criminals fleeing the law, they are involved in drugs, some are involved in human trafficking. We have every right to keep out lawbreakers, and let's not forget that entering the country illegally breaks the law.
This does not include the threat of terrorist infiltration along our southern border. Other than Mexicans(OTM's) has increased since 9-11. For the sake of national security congress must, finally, crack down on illegal immigration.
The illegal immigration advocates, and the illegals, made their feelings known. It's time people who take security seriously do the same.
