First Lieutenant Ehren Watada Should be Court Martialed
June 07, 2006 10:38 PM EST

In my opinion Ehren Watada is an insubordinate coward for refusing to go to Iraq and should serve a sentence in a military prison as punishment. As a former Army Officer myself with two sons who now serve in the United States Army as Lieutenants I am at a loss to discern how Watada wattled into the Army, and I do want to see him booted out, with a swift kick to his rear. Enlisted men look to their Officers as examples, and when that example proves to be negative the morale of the troops suffer.

Watada is not much of a soldier or a man but that does not give him an excuse to fail to adhere to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Watada is not privileged to disobey a lawful order or to refuse to serve in combat. He owes a duty of obedience to the President of the United States and should not make comments which give aide and comfort to the enemy. Frankly, Watada's comments make him look less like a soldier and more like Tokyo Rose. Like Tokyo Rose Watada comments serve to discredit the service and valor of our men in combat, and like Tokyo Rose he does not appear to have a set of testicles.
