Learn the Power of Rapid Cognition
August 23, 2006 08:00 AM EST

Do you have good instincts? Do you trust your judgment? We all have an inner compass, but not everyone knows how to use this. A great deal of high-level thinking actually occurs unconsciously, just as modern jetliners can be flown with the controls set to autopilot. But this kind of unconscious learning and thinking isn't static or fixed because it comes from a different part of your brain than that which controls your personality. It is much more fluid and adaptable and capable of great insight, but at the same time it goes on below the level of our conscious world, only making fleeting appearances. How can we learn to let these tiny bubbles below the radar of our conscious world rise to the surface so we can see them more clearly? By learning to pay attention to them and nurture them..

Malcolm Gladwell in his book, Blink: The Power of Thinking without Thinking, asserts that

When our powers of rapid cognition go awry, they go awry for a very specific and consistent set of reasons, and those reasons can be identified and understood. It is possible to learn when to listen to that powerful on-board computer and when to be wary of it. Our instinctive reactions often have to compete with all kinds of other interests and emotions and sentiments.

Why should you read this book? Because to take full control of your personal creative power you need to know when to trust your instincts, and when to be wary of them?
