Arizona Republicans: Show Some Spine!
September 15, 2006 09:00 AM EST

"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing."

- Albert Einstein

On November 7, 2006, Arizona will be voting to either re-elect or to remove Governor Janet Napolitano. In honor of this opportunity to rid my state of this demlibopean (Democrat-Liberal-wanna-be-European), I created http"//www.stopjanet.org. Its purpose is to remind the people of Arizona of the many 'little things' Governor Napolitano has said (and not done) been ordered to do (via successful proposition vote) and ignored, or things she simply refuses to do for the good of 'our people.'

To expedite the usefulness of stopjanet.org I contacted a few organizations in Arizona who I am loosely affiliated with. My intention? To ask these passionate (and patriotic) citizens to send me information they may have gathered on Ms. Napolitano’s reign, so I could more quickly populate the website.

The initial response to this request for assistance was encouraging. Several people gave the proverbial pat on the back and boasted on the vast wealth of information they have accumulated over the years for just such a purpose. But...despite the vigorous exclamations of support, only one person provided any shred of information. Only that one person, out of about a dozen supportive e-mails, provided substantiated links that could be used to populate stopjanet.org.

As the 2006 election nears, the anemic Arizona GOP is failing to capitalize on Governor Napolitano’s record of deception and unwillingness to abide by the will of her citizens. Once again, the Republicans of Arizona have failed to present a compelling alternative candidate for Governor.

Arizonans must make a concerted effort to simply find out who the Republican candidates are for Governor. There are not pre-recorded phone calls, flyers in mailboxes or on car windshields, no house to house pamphlet distribution, and scarcely any campaign signs on street corners from anyone other than Janet Napolitano when it comes to the Governors race. For a party who justifiably condemns a sitting Governor, the Republican Party in Arizona appears clueless, disorganized, and lackadaisical in its desire to assume a leadership role.

To further complicate matters, the majority Arizonans appear to have a severely limited ability to store and recall useful data when it comes to history and politics. Those who do remember enough to form strong opinions appear to be too busy, too angry at Republicans over illegal-immigration, or too unconcerned to participate. Recent poll numbers reveal that Ms. Napolitano’s blatant disregard for such things as illegal immigration enforcement, border protection, education, life, and free speech hardly resonates in the minds of Arizona voters. Yet with a bounty of factual data at their disposal to legitimately criticize Governor Napolitano and adjust public perception in their favor, Arizona Republicans are standing in the batters box, watching each pitch whiz by, and either are afraid to or don't know how to swing.

How soon Arizonans forget Mexican President Vicente Fox’s speech to 3000 of 'his people' at the Phoenix Civic Center. How quickly they fail to recall how Governor Napolitano urged American citizens not to make a scene, not to protest, and to let the Mexican President speak to 'his people'. How is the US Governor recommending that American citizens be silent in their own country, under their own laws, as a foreign leader speaks to illegal aliens or Americans of Mexican decent (who consider themselves more Mexican than American), not considered a monumental slap in the face to American voters? According to a SurveyUSA.com's approval ratings for State Governors in August 2006, outrage isn't what 59% of Arizonans are feeling toward their Governor.

True to form of a state run by Demlibopeans the largest local newspaper, the Arizona Repugnant (Republic), almost entirely ignores any negative perception of the Governors actions, inactions, or words. Regularly the Repugnant criticizes any degree of immigration enforcement, American Values, Christian morality, and efforts made in the global war on terror. Seldom does the Repugnant allow its readers to form their own opinions by way of factual reporting.

If the management of the state's largest newspaper is thinking that sensationalism and controversy sells, it's no surprise that the Arizona Republics subscription rates have been in steep decline for the last few years. If the Arizona Republic's reporting staff and management can’t deduce what type of story legitimately draws readership, can they be expected to actually report local and world events objectively? If the Arizona Repugnant can not identify the 'good-guys' in the illegal immigration issue or see it beyond the human interest story, how can it expect American citizens to want to read its fish wrap?

Since the local news refuses to actually report or analyze the Governors actions, it’s up to talk radio stations like KFYI, the Arizona Republican Party, and the more concerned citizens of Arizona to educate the masses. Unfortunately the Arizona GOP seems to have no stomach for hardball and the Arizona citizens, even the more socially conscious, are not nearly as concerned or motivated as they should be. Can even the most listened to talk radio station in the Valley of the Sun along with a minority of actively outspoken citizens prod the states lethargic populace to the polls to remove a Governor who has chosen to rule rather than serve?

Governor Janet Napolitano will likely be re-elected.
