The Democrats have yet to take power in Washington but the shape of their mysterious agenda has already begun to take form. Over the past few days glimpses of the DNC’s vision for America has been released to the media. These ideological bombshells - having been revealed well after the mid-term election - should be a cause of concern to many Americans. But concern is reserved for those voters who did not deliberately elect a party which hid its agenda to compete for power.
The Opinion Journal Online has reported that former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin has advised the upcoming Democratic leadership that taxes should be raised. True to the creative genius of the Socialist economic philosophies which have, throughout history, yielded such economic powerhouses as France, Spain and Germany; the Democrats continue to subscribe to the fallacious notion that any and all social or fiscal problems can be solved by raising revenues.
In Democrat-ese ‘raising revenues’ translates into allowing President Bush’s tax cuts, which have ended a recession and provided record economic prosperity, to lapse without renewal. To a Democrat, raising revenues is code for placing an even greater tax burden on business and the wealthy. Surely, Mr. Rubin’s must be unaware of the record low proportion of the Federal Deficit to the Gross Domestic Product. He must be ignorant of the record high home ownership, the record low unemployment, and the dramatic reduction in the federal deficit in President Bush’s second term. After all, Mr. Rubin’s is a highly qualified former Treasury Secretary, he wouldn’t advise our future leaders to raise taxes if the action were unnecessary, would he?
Another bombshell to grace American media recently is New York Senator Hillary Clinton’s stated desire to revisit health care reform. Again, America need only look to the Socialist European or Canadian health care systems that Senator Clinton is fond of emulating for the proof of their superiority in availability, quality and ingenuity. Perhaps Senator Clinton would enjoy incorporating the cost saving features of organ implants inherent in the Chinese medical system? Perhaps American prisoners, or their families, wouldn’t object to the confiscation of an executed prisoners organs or skin by the state for the common – or commercial - good?
The Democrats have fired another sortie regarding the issue of border security. The hard fought 700 mile border fence extension that so many organizations strong-armed congress to pass, and President Bush to sign only one month ago, is now on the Democratic tinkering bench. These Democrats, the apparent heroes of the American people in 2006, overwhelmingly voted against approving the 700 mile physical barrier. Soon the very same Democrats who attempted to circumvent the will of the American people will be responsible for providing funding for the very measure they voted as a Party to thwart. What do the incoming Democrats have in mind to secure America’s borders if the have no desire to fund the Secure Fence Law?
Incoming chairman of the House Homeland Security committee Democrat Bennie Thompson of Mississippi has expressed that the Border fence extension will be revisited after Democrats assume power in January. Representative Thompson favors the Secure Border initiative (SBI) which downplays physical barriers and emphasizes “monitors, cameras, and other surveillance equipment.” As if America hasn’t already learned from its battle against Middle Eastern terrorism, technology is great for monitoring movement but only boots on the ground can definitively stop a threat. The same confidence can be placed in physical barriers which will create points of entry into the United States that can be effectively monitored. But reality isn’t something the Democrats have needed for some time to create policy (or as recent history proves, to gain public office). This could explain the desire of the Democrats to ignore the will of the American people and choose to spend more money to build a virtual fence to apprehend very large numbers of real illegal aliens who are attempting to cross a very real and very deadly desert. But will the Democrats fund and provision the Border Patrol or National Guard well enough to apprehend all the tiny the blips on all those surveillance monitors?
Perhaps the most unsettling revelation to shake the American people’s confidence in their democratic saviors comes from the incoming chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee New York Senator Charles Rangel’s long held desire to re-instate the military draft. In 2003, Senator Rangel proposed a Draft bill to the Republican controlled congress that was quickly shot down. Ironically at that time the Democrats were proposing a draft bill, Democratic Presidential hopefuls were warning America that if President Bush were re-elected a military draft could happen. Rangel’s Draft proposal would have made mandatory service for people between 18-42 years of age. Rangel’s rationale was that a draft would make the nation less likely to go to war if the leadership’s children had the potential of being called into service. Senator Rangel fails to mention, as Democrats often do, that conscription (the draft) is common place in nations such as China, Russia, and Iran. DNC Chairman Howard Dean has long boasted of the over abundance of good and creative ideas that the Democrats have in store for America. Yet his Party has been very secretive in adding those ideas into the public arena for discussion. Logically there are only two options, either the Democrats have plenty of ideas but were withholding them or the Democrats possess only idea that Americans would reject.
The Democrats, by way of congressional majority, will shortly have control of the nation’s purse strings and the numbers to assure their agenda is presented and possibly approved in congress. It will be up to the minority Republicans to prevent the Democrats from imposing their acquiescent regressive socialist ideologies that went unspoken, but not unknown, throughout the mid-term election.
Thanks to angry conservatives, Pandora’s Box is now wide open. What winged pernicious manifestations of the Democrats will be loosed upon American democracy in the guise of the common good and fairness? Will conservatives recognize the consequential stings which will result from their decision to stay home or vote Libertarian to spite their wayward Republican surrogates? Only time will tell.
