The big news this week is the Iraq Study Group report that contains 79 alternatives to “staying the course” on what to do about the battle of Iraq. Everyone seems to be either gung ho about the report or just plain confused and rightly so.
First off, liberals and specifically Democrats are jumping on the bandwagon and trying to inject themselves into the report, making statements to the effect that they have been saying this all along. On the surface, the report does not mention victory so perhaps they have been but is it that they have not been vocal enough about their views that we have not heard them? I believe they have been vocal but their views are founded upon shifting sand that changes with every wave and tide. Meaning, whatever news is coming in, that is what determines whether war was the right thing to do. Foundationally, the war is the right thing before it begins or it does not begin. That is how our system works. Shifting opinions mean nothing as far as reasons to go to war.
What all this liberal revisionism shows is that they have never had an actual unified policy on Iraq other than to follow the headlines panting. In fact it shows how shallow they are that this report has now told them exactly what reality to believe. A fact based upon an opinion poll is no fact of reality especially not on the battle of Iraq and most especially not with the unbelievably one-sided report the American people are getting from the politically motivated media.
The point is liberals have never stood for victory in Iraq and this report is far more constructive in process than the ranting of the likes of Howard Dean. Naturally, they will grasp on to it and twist an already anti-victory report into a holy grail of white flag anti-militarism.
I could continue on this line of thought and make this a political argument against liberalism but I am sure someone else will. Therefore, I intend to add my voice to the surely immense roar of voices calling for changes in Iraq toward more military occupation. We do not need to find a way out we need to find a way to crush the enemy swiftly, brutally and without flinching.
This report is not legislation and the President still has full control of whether or not the great US military will stay in Iraq. Short and sweet, leaving Iraq is losing a major battle in the war on terror and is indeed an incalculable victory for terrorists.
It is this view that the liberals have yet to wander on to. In a few weeks the legitimacy and memory of this report will have waned and the left wing will resume its disorganized and blindfolded stumbling about trying to find a view on what to do in Iraq.
The real question is will the President allow the military to do what is necessary to eradicate terrorism in Iraq.
