To paraphrase the Declaration of Independence, When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for conservatives to dissolve their political alliances with the Republican Party in order to ensure for future generations a country that is guided by the firm conviction that each and every person has certain rights that cannot be taken away by their government, it is necessary to spell out why there is no alternative.
The Republican Party, which can no longer be distinguished from the Democratic Party, has conspired to expand the size of government and restrict our Rights to Life, Liberty and Prosperity. This has been done repeatedly by passing laws that allow the Federal Government to become involved in activities that are in clear violation of the U.S. Constitution. The Federal Government has assumed responsibilities of the States and of the people in direct violation of the 10th Amendment.
I, therefore, proclaim a modern day "call to arms"! I offer this call to all conservatives and anyone who will join us in preserving this nation. It is a call to action designed to place us in a position to determine the outcome of the 2008 elections. At this crucial time in the history of our nation good men and women must sound the alarm. We will no longer tolerate policies that bring us closer to economic ruin and threaten the security of our country. The willful and irresponsible increase in entitlement programs (No Child Left Behind and the Prescription Drug program) at a time when warnings are being given that current entitlements (Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security) will result in bankrupting the country in 10-20 years. The failure to close our borders and control who can legally enter the U.S. is shameful. We are perilously close to becoming a nation far different than the one who know today. We may debate the form that this change will take but we cannot deny the course we are on.
We must withdraw our support of the GOP because the current leadership is not interested in advancing conservative agendas. I specifically refer to the following, that government derives its power from the people, that convenience does not trump principle, the right to life, that marriage is between a man and a woman, that religious expression is guaranteed by the Constitution, the right to acquire and control goods and property, personal autonomy, lower taxes, reduction in spending, balancing the budget, removing ourselves from foreign entanglements and enforcing immigration laws.
Our strategy must be one of unconventional warfare. We cannot win by a frontal attack. The media, the liberals’ stranglehold on higher education, special interest groups and big business will marginalize, criticize, lie, deceive, label, and impugn the character of any who oppose them. We will never receive a fair and accurate reporting of our position.
In light of this dismal track record, I am firmly convinced that the GOP cannot be reformed. It must, therefore, be rendered ineffective by the withdrawal of all financial support by conservatives. The dissatisfaction over the 2006 election results have left the party fractured and vulnerable. A recent poll of conservatives indicates that 46% would vote for a third party candidate if the GOP nominates a liberal candidate for president in 2008. We must let the RNC know that we will not support liberal candidates! I clearly understand that this may, in fact, result in the election of a Democrat to the White House. However, conservatives must not be forced into believing that a liberal Republican is better than a liberal Democrat. There is no difference!
I believe that Internet web sites, bloggers, e-mail blasts, talk show hosts, and writers can provide the vehicle to bring about unity and cooperation among millions of conservative. I believe that a national conservative registry (searchable by zip code) must be put in place so that we can contact other conservatives in our communities and states. (Someone out there has the expertise to do this. I do not.)
I believe that current conservative leadership must set aside petty differences and acknowledge that if your heart is as my heart, then, let us join hands in this effort. We all desire to be part of something that lifts us out of the mundane activities of our daily routines. We all wish to leave this world a better place for our children and grandchildren. We all want to live in a country that affords us the freedom to prosper and enjoy life.
I, therefore, urge you to take the following pledge and become part of something that will change our world. If you are hesitant, ask yourself this question, "What is the alternative?"
A Conservative's Pledge
1. I will withhold my financial support from any organization that contributes to the advancement of bigger government and the restriction of personal liberty.
2. 1 will contribute and support any candidate that is truly conservative based solely upon his/her voting record.3. I will zealously and untiringly express my beliefs openly and honestly with any and all who will listen and unflinchingly ask them to join in the effort to elect true conservatives.
4.1 will set aside all petty differences with other people and organization in order to maximize our effectiveness and likelihood of success.
5. I will, whenever possible, subordinate my personal interests, ideologies, goals, and ambitions to the cause of electing only conservative candidates.
