The "Gathering of Eagles" Meet in D.C.
February 16, 2007 01:08 PM EST

There has always been a group of those who will stand in the face of those who revel in and bring negative dissention and discord. No exception will be made on March 17, 2007 as a group dubbed Gathering of Eagles will officiate its own rally in Washington D.C. to counter any protests and inflammatory rhetoric anti-war protesters may dish out during their next gathering.

The last time anti-war protesters marched, the Capitol steps were defaced as these "protesters" displayed their raucous and unruly behavior, showing total disrespect for our nation's institutions. Imagine then, if the scene were repeated, this time as they march near one of our nation's most sacred war memorials, the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C.! It is unfathomable why an anti-war group would think of holding protests on such a hallowed ground where the names of those who have died in past and present wars are displayed proudly. Those brave souls PROUDLY fought to keep our nation free, so that we may have the freedom to disagree with our government, but not get to the point where it becomes disrespectful of our soldiers and out of control. Many with the anti-war movement take the opportunity to display nasty behavior instead of showing respect. And the Gathering of Eagles, a group of patriots (from military to civilian) led by Col. Harry Riley (US Army, Ret.) will be in Washington D.C. to make sure that our memorials are respected, and to show solidarity and stand in unison with those who take up arms to defend this country. I am truly honored to get word of such a fine group of individuals.

What stirred me to write and support the Gathering of Eagles was a powerful email sent by my friend... blogger, author, and Korean War Vet Tom Craighead. In it Mr. Craighead details a dream he had regarding the upcoming Gathering of Eagles event:

Tom writes:

Today's blog came to me as the most powerful dream I have had in a very long time.

Thousands of veterans listed on the Wall of the Vietnam Memorial, were standing before me. They were in formation standing at 'parade rest'.

One of them stepped out of formation and approached me. He clicked his heels to atten--tion! Then he saluted, his right hand pointed stiffly straight to his eyebrow. He held the salute for a long time, until I realized he was waiting for me to return the salute. I was confused, inasmuch as I was an enlisted man, and we only salute the bars on an officers shoulders. I returned the salute, and he resumed the position of attention.

I told him to relax, and I asked him why he was in my dream. He turned slightly, and pointed to the thousands of spirits in formation before him. They were all in military uniform. He signaled to them, and they all snapped to attention, responded in a very loud, "HOO-RAH!!!

Then the soldier (in uniform without bars or stripes) told me they were here in my dream to convey a message to Col. Harry Riley, and to all the volunteers that have come out to organize the "Gathering of Eagles." And your message is?, I asked. The soldier with a broad smile on his face said, "THANK YOU Colonel Riley, sir, and thank all those who are volunteering to give us our just deserve, and to disgrace those who honor us not." He then said, "Everyone of us gathered here will attend the 'Gathering of Eagles'. You of course will not see us, but you will feel our presence." Then he waved to the troops again, and they responded with another very loud "HOO-RAH!!" Then he said, "Now wake up and start writing." I did.

Thank you Lord above for sending them to me. God bless the Gathering of Eagles! God bless America!

Enough for now, I'll be back!

After reading the above, surely the spirits of those who have died to protect us live on and are aware of what our nation is facing today. They are watching. Shall we not honor them by protecting the memorials that are a tribute to their sacrifice?

The Gathering of Eagles movement is spreading quickly as one by one, patriotic organizations mobilize to join this effort. Move America Forward and the Rolling Thunder motorcycle group have announced their participation as well. Although these organizations quickly and happily declared their intentions to support our troops by rallying in D.C., Americans from all walks of life who love our great country are encouraged to come as well. Honor our fallen by saying, "We appreciate your sacrifice, we understand the threat to our country, we stand with you, and we respect you."

The Gathering of Eagles movement is a poignant moment during this turbulent time in our nation's history. To get the opportunity to come together in such a powerful way as is planned, is an honor. I may not be able to make this journey to stand side by side with my military brethren, but I do support them in spirit.

The Gathering of Eagles and our troops need you! I believe that this meeting planned for March 17, 2007 is becoming a snowball effect in that more and more Americans are being stirred and moved to join our military at the Vietnam Memorial. Please get the message out, spread the word... we need more eagles like you to stand side by side with our military. Won't you join The Gathering of Eagles?
