Can we just go ahead and say it, please? Alberto Gonzales is hispanic. As George W Bush's Attorney General, he is (or was) on the short list to be nominated for the next Supreme Court Vacancy. The very thought of A Conservative Republican president nominating a Conservative Hispanic American to the Supreme Court leaves Liberals puking. Ratrher than wait to oppose potential candidates, it is far easier to engage in character assasination now.

Democrats are out to destroy the careers of any member of a minority group in this country who strays from the idealogical reservation (plantation, etc. pick your metaphor). Hence, the object of the probe into the firings of those prosecutors is not to seek Gonzales' firing or resignation or firing. Its not even about seeking the truth. Rather it is to so damage a good man's reputation that he could never be considered for the Supreme Court. This is the worst kind of racism. It is the same kind of racism that has confronted black Republican candidates for office.

The funny part is that it is unnecessary. If the Democrats will simply sit back and wait, we Conservatives will do the damage for them. On the Republican/Conservative side of the aisle, the last two years have looked like one of those pro wrestling free-for-alls that starts with eighteen guys in the ring. They gang up on each other and throw each other out until only one is left standing. The problem is that whoever is left standing on our side will have to face the Democrats alone.

We should all acknowledgde that attacking Harriet Meirs' nomination was stupid and shortsighted regardless of what Rush calls it (a Conservative crackdown) when he tries to put a good face on it. Think of how it would be if Meirs were on the Court right now with Alito waiting in the wings. We don't need to be divided anymore. We don't need to be questioning each other's credentials anymore. We need to stop attacking each other. There is an enemy over there waiting for our leader to surely emerge so wounded that he will be like a crippled antelope amongst a pack of lions.
