I watched some of the Democratic debate last week and found myself snickering to myself when they talked about Iraq. Not one of the candidates has a clue as to what’s going on over there. They are all for ending the war by bringing the troops home. I have a big news flash for them, simply bringing troops home will NOT end the war! How could that end anything? Will the enemy just pack up and go home saying ‘Hey! We won! Game over?’ Not likely.
The war will go on, and Iraq will fall deeper into conflict with even more insurgents supplied by Iran and Syria. Their goal is to dismantle the Iraqi government and take over the country itself. This will, of course, lead to millions of deaths of innocent Iraqis, much worse than ever seen before. What is stopping Iraq’s enemy from accomplishing this is the US Military.
I am all for bringing soldiers home, who wants our men and women fighting for years upon years? Nobody. But we must be realistic. Let’s do the job first before bringing them home. If you build a house and your builder puts down the foundation and some walls and then says he is done without putting a roof on, I suppose the job isn’t finished. This is the same situation in Iraq. We have the foundation of the government there. We have the walls, which is the Iraqi army, which, by the way, continues to grow month by month. We do not have the roof (which is 100% security) to complete the job. It is taking longer than expected.
Democrats are trying to cozy up with this so-called ‘anti-war’ movement because they think they will get votes. And they probably will. Why? Because no republican candidate or elected official is explaining the situation well enough, still! President Bush tried, but did not hit the nail on the head apparently. It would be nice to see a republican candidate step up and explain things a bit better. John McCain has done somewhat of a decent job at this, but not good enough in my opinion. The public does not understand, and you must explain it to them until they do. They are getting the idea, every night, by watching the news that we are losing, why don’t we give them some examples of how we are winning? I expect the news media to do no such thing, but one can always hope they come to their senses.
