A new AP Gallup Poll shows that Congress’s approval rating is lower than the Presidents. 4 points lower to be exact. Democrats are citing their inability to convince the President to do the will of the people. The Democrats control Congress, and are sinking into the 29th percentile. This is less than the former Congress with the Republican majority. Something must be wrong. When something goes wrong, they blame President Bush. They have yet to take the blame for themselves.
Example: During the election last fall Democrats including Senator Schumer and Clinton both mentioned that if re-elected they would pass bills that would lower the price of gas. This has not happened. In fact, their (and fellow Democrats) inability to write decent legislation has caused gas prices to go up 40% since January. The President has proposed an energy bill that would, in a reasonable time frame, reduce the dependency on oil along with other energy saving measures. Many Democrats oppose this bill. Maybe it is too easy for them to understand and lacks the earmarks they are used to appending to every thing they attempt to pass. Sometimes, simple works well.
Example: Democrats are fumbling around trying to delay funding our troops in Iraq because of a vendetta they have against Bush. Their vendetta however, should be against themselves. They are kicking themselves for stating during the election that they supported our troops and would supply them with whatever is necessary. ‘We will always support our troops’ they stated. Were they saying this just to be kind? They are acting as if all of the resolutions and bills they voted for prior to the election never existed and that Bush is to blame for everything. It’s easy to put the blame on someone else, than to accept blame yourself. In the meantime, the troop surge is working and will continue to progress with the additional funds needed. Instead of passing the appropriate funding bill, they delay. How can they lead this country if they are simply followers? They say and do whatever is popular, at the time, not what is necessary.
All of this has sent a message to the American people that maybe they voted the wrong way in November. These approval ratings do not lie. The truth is that this Congress has done very little for the American people since they were sworn in. They have bickered back and forth, earmarked every bill and have yet to provide Americans with this ‘plan’ they’ve talked about for 2 years. In fact, I’m still waiting for this ‘plan.’
Strong leadership requires responsibility, action and results. None of the Democratic leaders in this Congress have these requirements. And to think, many of them are actually trying to be President.
