As much as I defend President Bush on certain issues, I certainly cannot defend his backing of this new immigration bill developed in the Senate. This bill, crafted in secret, behind closed doors, will not only ruin the Republican party in the future, but it will help set up a nice little Mexican state here in our country. This is a catastrophic failure of the American Government. Senators are trying to push the bill through as fast as possible to avoid a lengthy debate. If you ask me, this issue is so important that the debate should be long enough to show which Senators are selling their fellow Americans out.
The 1000 page bill, not all of which has been made public as the time of this article, states the following (paraphrase):
- The bill would create a special Z visa for millions of illegal aliens already in the country, giving them immediate, temporary legal status.
- To gain permanent residency, illegal aliens would have to pay fees, a $5,000 fine, and heads of households (only) would have to return to their home countries first and then apply for citizenship officially.
Who wrote this bill? Oh wait, Ted Kennedy is behind a vast majority of it. Maybe he will get free tequila out of the deal. I need some questions answered here, $5000 fine? Per family? Per person? Plus fees? What are the fees, a $30 processing fee? That’s nice, it should be $50,000. Suppose I don’t pay my taxes for 10 years, I would get thrown in jail, here we have people who came across the border illegally, have never paid taxes, many of which commit other crimes and they get a VISA and a little $5000 fine. Amazing!
Second, what if they do not pay? The head of household goes back to their home country and then pays $5,000?
This Z visa creates temporary legal status immediately. How is this not amnesty again?
What about the immigrants who have been trying to get come here legally and waited on a list for the last 10 years? Especially ones from eastern European countries whose economies are horrible!?
These questions need to be answered in a debate before a vote is taken.
Are Republicans sleeping on this? Do they realize what will happen when we receive 10 million new ‘official’ citizens in this country? We will have 10 million new voters. Most will vote Democrat. The ‘illegals’ will think that the Democrats are their saviors. The Republicans can say goodbye to ever having a majority in Congress ever again. Bush wants a legacy. Here’s his legacy : President Bush – The man who single handedly destroyed his own political party for the future. It’s hard to believe that in the last 2-3 years Bush has been able to create problem after problem for his party. Unfortunately this problem is the worst one of all. The only time I expect to hear the Bush and Kennedy name is when they were in disagreement, not agreement.
Comprehensive immigration reform? A definition of comprehensive is ‘Marked by or showing extensive understanding.’ These Senators show absolutely no extensive understanding of this situation. They cannot pass a bill giving our border agents protection. Instead they look the other way when two are thrown in jail for doing their job. They cannot pass bills creating laws to punish illegals for entering this country illegally. I’m wondering if they can even tie their own shoes. What we honestly need is Comprehensive Congressional reform. Vote out incompetent Senators Kennedy, Feinstein and Ken Salazar, among others, and bring in someone who will stand up for what the true majority of Americans want. The irony here is that many Republicans actually support this rubbish. Many Democrats say they want further examination, but I’m sure when push comes to shove they will vote for it anyway because that’s what they do.
It is clear that Webster’s needs to update their dictionary because comprehensive now means amnesty. I think I shall sign up for a Spanish class because I fear that I am going to need that language now more than ever.
