I tuned in to Live Earth on Saturday to see what all the hype was about. Believe me, it was the biggest waste of time. But I still had to watch. As Bravo TV flipped between different countries and different performers, I found myself hating more and more this stupid idea that came from the brain of Al Gore.
For starters, the sound quality at times was horrible. I don’t know if the sound people knew what they were doing or they were trying to save a few dollars on microphones. Duran Duran, my wife’s favorite band, played a great set. But there was a strange sound during their songs in the background. Sounded like a weird drum or something being hit every so often. Maybe that was Al Gore bashing his head into the stage. When they showed Snoop Dogg, his entire song was edited so much for swearing that it sounded like something took a record and put it on reverse permanently. Madonna couldn’t sing at all, not a surprise. See what the wonders of a recording studio will do for your career?
If anything, Live Earth has taught us a few things. Do not hold all these concerts with all these people if you are trying to talk about saving the planet. The amount of trash generated at these concerts must have been gigantic. One report actually stated that it would take 100,000 new trees being planted to offset all the garbage. I suppose Al Gore thought that his audience would goto recycling bins when they were done with their $10 beer in their plastic cup. Or recycle all of the bottles and paper products used.
I don’t suppose everybody walked or biked to the concerts did they? The amount of trucks used to transport the stage, the lighting and the sound equipment probably generated enough pollution to equal that of Los Angeles.
Advertisers must have paid big bucks for ad spots during the event. Like the one about how you should buy all of your music online so that CD’s don’t have to be transported by trucks. Hint Hint: go to I-tunes today! How about the car companies advertising their new hybrids? When their top selling cars are still gas guzzling SUVs. The whole show was a reason to sell something. I thought this was supposed to raise awareness on the environment? All it did was raise awareness on where to buy your latest gadget that’s ‘good’ for the environment. Remember, someone, somewhere is making money. Al Gore is sitting pretty. How much pocket money did he receive for his little speech before and after the show? Don’t think he didn’t get paid a speakers fee. Now we wait to see what the organizers do with this money. I bet you won’t see anything from them, because the money went back to investors 100 fold. I wish I had bought stock in every environmental company involved in this event, because I’m sure they all went up enough to make a profit.
So why did Al waste everyone’s time? Because he wants to be famous. Good Job Al, you did succeeded in that.
But you still aren’t the President.
