Democrats went out of their way to destroy General Petraeus and his report to congress. They made up their minds ahead of time. Grammy Pelosi criticized the general for supporting sustained troop levels 1 day before his report. She sites the recent NIE and the GAO reports stating that the Iraqi government is not keeping up with benchmarks set by President Bush.
What does that have to do with David Petraeus and our troops you ask?
Nothing!
Commander Pelosi and her legion of doom are at it again. Democrats think they are siding with the ‘American people’ by stating that we must pull troops out of Iraq. But reports of our troops’ successes are ringing loud and clear all over the place. New polls have shown that 68% of Americans believe that the war should be commanded by our commanding generals not by Congress (and their dismal approval rating). But the media chooses to ignore most of them.
What is clear is that the terrorists in Iraq are losing. The country is slowing coming together and security in many dangerous areas is getting stronger. It is agreed that the Iraqi government is moving rather slow. Let us not forget the other countries who took several years to get their act together and have survived to this day. In fact, some are still getting their act together, for better or worse. The amount of violence have been decreasing, the amount of American troop casualties have decreased. Iraqi security forces are going on their own missions and policing their own sections of the country with minor US support. No one bothers to read these stories from the sources who actually wrote them from Iraq where they stayed for a much longer time than any politician.
Petraeus has no reason to lie to us. He was hired to do one job and that is to win the war. His truthfulness is not only sobering, but encouraging that we have a man of this stature on our side. He knows what needs to be done and has moved us much further along than any other commanding general ever has in recent memory.
Democrats want you to believe that we are losing so that they can try to destroy the Republican Party and force their socialist agenda into your brain. Even their almighty master Hillary Clinton said that the surge is working and things are turning around. Then a week later she states that it’s the Iraqi government that is to blame and the whole thing is pointless. You can’t have it both ways Hillary. I don’t recall you being in the top of your class at West Point and serving in our armed forces honorably for most of your adult life. They are so quick to be critical of something they know nothing about. I suppose they can explain why our troops are re-enlisting at record rates to stay and to go back to Iraq. They know that they are doing the right thing and they are making genuine progress. I’d ask these democratic leaders, how can you be for the troops if you are not for the job they are doing? They should lead by example not be lead by radical left wing groups like MoveOn.org.
The democrats do not realize that we are in a large scale war, not a little conflict. We were at war with communism for 40some years. You could call it the war on communism with battles along the way – Korea and Vietnam are examples of these battles. Now we are war with an enemy: radical Islamic extremists. This new war has battles all over the globe. The whole world is involved in it. From minor attacks by the enemy in London and Spain, to major battles like the ones we are involved with in Afghanistan and Iraq. Once the Iraq battle is completed, there is no telling where the next battle will be. Democrats want us to leave the battle and retreat, giving that country over to the radicals including the Iranians, destroying the Middle East as we know it. Then the next battle may be on our soil. It could be 10-100 times worse than 9-11. But they don’t believe that can happen. The signs are there, but they refuse to accept testimony from people who are living, fighting and working for a country that requires restoration, cooperation and unity to live and prosper on its own.
I admire Gen. Petraeus. I would have been throwing chairs at these ‘so-called’ Americans for thinking I was lying to my country. You can tell he is a man of great integrity and honor. He will not go down without a fight. These are the types of leaders we need in Washington.
