Al Qaeda's Sunni Disposition
September 17, 2007 01:37 PM EST

Democrats continue to choose treachery over patriotism, siding with our enemies while ignoring the realities on the ground in Iraq as well as throughout the rest of the world.

While there is now some Democrat infighting over MoveOn.org's recent character assassination of 4-Star US Army General David Petraeus (and rightfully so), there is no public Democratic Party disavowal of the attack on this American patriot. As a result, there is increasing outrage among military families and average Americans over these horrendous tactics designed specifically to divide the country. The only 2 conclusions one can draw from Democratic silence over MoveOn.org's cheap shot courtesy of the New York Times are either political cowardice, or outright approval.

While both brave Americans and Iraqis are still dying to try and salvage peace, Democrats led by Hillary Clinton are incessantly minimizing our successes while completely ignoring what is truly taking place there. What originally appeared to be a sectarian civil war provoked by al Qaeda and Iran has given rise to increased cooperation from all sides, including Sunnis who are now helping US forces kill, capture, or corral al Qaeda terrorists operating in Sunni areas. Yet the staccato whine of the leftist cowards over the perceived lack of progress continues.

Although Democrats won't acknowledge it, about a year ago, Sunni Sheik Abdul-Sattar Abu Risha organized several Sunni tribes and began a methodical campaign to expel foreign al Qaeda elements from the areas they control. Last week, al Qaeda responded by setting off a bomb outside his home, killing him and three others. In total, al Qaeda has killed 10 members of his family. Another relative now takes his place in the fight against al Qaeda, and their tribes are vowing swift revenge.

Al Qaeda has finally overplayed its hand in Iraq; our former enemies are uniting with us to kill them; our generals are claiming significant progress; and Democrats -in essence- call the general in charge a liar while trying to pull the plug on his efforts to snuff out the fuse on this powder keg.

This seditious behavior has been going on for 4 decades. An entire generation of Vietnam veterans was irreparably dishonored as a result of liberal attacks, and although they pretend pretty well to have learned from their mistakes, the silence from the Democratic Party while their lapdogs attack Gen. Petraeus shows nothing has changed. Americans must ask themselves "Where does legitimate political dissent end, and outright treachery and sedition begin?" Attacks on policy are one thing... Attacks on soldiers quite another.

The Democrat world view of the threat posed by al Qaeda scares the hell out of me, quite frankly. They seem to subscribe to this corny belief that if we just run away licking our wounds, our problems will magically disappear. They adopt the very positions of the enemy; an enemy who has no honor, and no respect for human life, including their own. An enemy who vows to subjugate us and destroy our way of life.

When told that they've adopted the position of the enemy, they have the nerve to call it patriotism; dissent; freedom of speech. I call it sedition; treason; unconscionable in time of war.

The Iraq war is a human catastrophe that has brought immeasurable suffering. But what Democrats fail time and time again to acknowledge or discuss are the human costs and moral responsibility if we simply walk away, now that we've broken it. They constantly claim that we should redeploy our forces to fight al Qaeda in Afghanistan (despite the fact they are more likely in Pakistan and at least contained there), without acknowledging the reality that Iraq will be another Afghanistan shortly after we leave - if we don't finish the job.

When you explicitly or implicitly support intellectually dishonest attacks on the soldiers in harm's way fighting in Iraq, or the generals who order them there, you've crossed the line. There were 2 primary reasons we lost in Vietnam. Political meddling in military decisions and the rules of engagement, and loss of public support, leading to outright hostility here at home. We're standing again at the precipice; about to take the first step down that slippery slope once again.

In the case of Iraq, the old adage "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" also has a flip side. The reason why Democrats are taking the side of the enemy is the same reason why ordinary Iraqis are beginning to take up arms and fight against them.

It must be al Qaeda's Sunni disposition.
