O America, God brought you through slavery, the Civil War, segregation to civil rights. God, by His sovereign grace, has been mending your flaws and will continue to do so. In the midst of all your sins and flaws you remain a great light to the world, and the whole world still continues to look to you for inspiration and freedom.
Nothing will change the fact that it was through you that God gave the modern world wonders such as the automobile, airplane, the desk top computer, modern medicines, food technology and science that has enabled other nations like India become self-sufficient in food (i.e. India's green revolution of the 1960's), and so many other modern marvels and wonders that have helped and benefited the world. You have not kept your blessings to yourself!
America, it was principally through you that God protected the world from Hitler's tyranny and later from Soviet Communist tyranny during the Cold War. You had the atom bomb first, but you did not use it to conquer the world which you easily could have done. If the others had possessed the atom bomb first it would be a different world now and not for the better either.
God will make you better and better yet. You just wait and see. People talk about the racism in America, and it is true that there is much of it still here, but much of it has also gone. America, you as a nation have ended your own slavery from within. Other nations have ended slavery only because they were forced to do so by a greater nation and power from outside. In many other countries people of even the same race have hated each other and continue to hate each other, even to death, because of differences in tribe or caste.
Remember the one million Tutsis in Africa that were killed by members of the Hutu tribe. Many were even slowly tortured before the eyes of their children and family. This was done by one black tribe against another! It is very common, even today, in Third world countries for people of even the same race to deny equal treatment, whether in employment or in other areas, simply because of differences in tribe, caste, language, and religion. America, even in all your imperfections, you are a heaven to these people!
People of all nations are here and contributing to your creativity and strength. Why is it that crime, drug abuse, the break down of the family, and a host of other problems are so much greater here than in the rest of the world? Because just as you have been the apple of God's eye so too you have been the target of Satan. For through you the Gospel of Christ has gone out to more nations in the world and in greater numbers and force than through any other nation and that surely makes the Devil mad.
God will surely answer the prayers of your forefathers, and the many prayers in Christ's name which even now are being brought before the throne of God, so that as a nation you may not perish but continue to be a light to the world while God Himself personally continues to refine you more and more. Just as a lumberjack getting a brand new saw can't wait to use it on the hardest-to-cut tree, God can't wait to use the prayers of your forefathers in your hardest of times, America!
Only fear God more than the Islamic terrorists! Millions of persecuted Christian brethren in China also are praying for you. Their prayers in Christ are most certainly powerful and effectual - more powerful and effectual than whatever plans Osama bin Laden may have against you! Osama bin Laden certainly has hurt you and may continue to hurt you but he will not destroy you.
As the song goes:
"America, America God shed His grace on thee...God mend thine every flaw, confirm thy soul in self-control, thy liberty in law..." America, when it comes to righteousness, you are not all that you should be but, when it comes to unrighteousness, you are not all that you once were. God will continue to forgive you and continue to mend your every flaw. He's been doing so for generations.
Your flaws, America, are that much more visible to the world only because of the light God has blessed you with from the Holy Christian Scriptures and from the brilliance of your own Constitution. The best is yet to be! Do not be afraid. For the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob goes before you! The Almighty God and Savior Jesus Christ watches over you.
