As adolescents we learned about STDs.

As adults we know of children who suffer from ADD or ADHD.

We know that infants die from SIDS, that there's no cure for AIDS, that RLS may be real, and that there are new respiratory ailments called COPD and SARS because they don't really know the cause.

Unfortunately, there's another acronym that we are going to have to live with. The acronym is PDS, or Political Detachment Syndrome. PDS is characterized by such a complete detachment from the harsh realities of life on Earth, that the afflicted are obsessively compelled to seek out bizarre new ways to sate their own enormous egos. PDS leads some to act in a manner that gives new meaning to the term "toilet humor", others to try and be something they're not. It infects Democrat and Republican; presidential candidates, senators and congressmen.

Idaho Senator Larry Craig apparently tried to slip a Mickey to Lady Justice, so he could have his way with her in the Minnesota airport toilet. Oh, I forgot, he was reportedly caught soliciting sex from a male...

He was caught playing footsie in a public toilet with a cop; was arrested, charged, and finally pled guilty to disorderly conduct. I simply cannot believe that an educated man would even consider trying to manipulate the system like Craig thought he could. He pled guilty to a crime out of political expediency, with the express goal of preventing the facts from being made public. Then when they did become public, he claimed his innocence; that he was somehow coerced or misled. If our justice system allowed Craig to withdraw his plea; if our justice system accommodated that sort of personal favoritism because one is a politician, judge, priest, police officer, or teacher we would have sheer anarchy. There are reasons why court records are made public; to deter crime; to provide transparency; to alert the public to predatory criminals in their midst they may not be otherwise aware of, such as a pervert pretending to be a US Senator.

Oh, the humanity! Larry Craig needs to spare us all the indignity of having to listen to any more of the sordid details of his train-wreck of a personal life. He is unfit to serve the good people of Idaho. He should count his blessings it was nothing more than a simple misdemeanor and just go away.

Rudy Giuliani has made a series of political miscalculations of late. As a presidential candidate, Giuliani had the nerve to actually answer a phone call from his wife during a campaign appearance with the N.R.A. At first it was widely speculated that it was nothing more than a cheap political stunt. Giuliani says it was a spontaneous moment. It wasn't the first time. It has been oft noted that Giuliani's wife insists he take her calls whenever and wherever. Judging how deferential Giuliani was during that now infamous phone call, I believe it. Can you imagine having to live with that? I'd rather she just castrate me and get the emasculation over with quickly.

Leaving that phone on during a major address was rude. It also shows who wears the pants in the Giuliani household.

Besides snubbing the N.R.A., he burned another sizable constituency along with 3 other Republicans by failing to show up for a debate about the concerns of African-American voters hosted by Tavis Smiley. When asked about his failure to appear, Giuliani responded that the last few weeks of the imaginary fundraising window imposed by the media was all about raising money.

Gosh, I feel stupid. I thought campaigning for president was about who would best represent the needs and wishes of their constituents.

Smiley said he felt the no-shows were trying to go through the primary season not having to answer to voters or journalists of color, and rightly so. But the truth is, they're trying to go through the primary season not having to answer to voters or journalists, period.

Giuliani like many Democrats also receives Catholic communion, despite supporting abortion - a sin itself in the eyes of the church- which renders him unfit for the holy sacrament. He is a henpecked hypocrite with an enormous ego; he thinks he's some kind of 9/11 legend; and he suffers horribly from PDS.

Hillary Clinton has suddenly taken to erupting into the giggles when questioned by the media instead of actually answering any questions. There are two reasons for this bizarre behavior. One: She doesn't answer any questions; she only issues statements.

And two: She's trying to prove really, really hard that she's a human being, not a Gargoyle. Be extremely wary of any politician who only answers scripted questions in an environment they control. How much do you really know about her positions if all she does is blame George Bush for the nation's woes and then giggle uncontrollably when questioned by reporters?

Here we have seen but 3 examples of PDS; two media anointed presidential front-runners, and 1 of their fallen Senate comrades. As you can see, the disease does not discriminate based on party or political affiliation. Three completely different individuals, 2 different political parties; but all 3 individuals are completely detached from reality. It must be nice to live in a world where it's all about you.
