Active-duty military personnel preferred President Bush to Kerry by about 73 percent to 18 percent. Sixty percent describe themselves as Republican and less than 10 percent call themselves Democrat . Even among the veterans, Republicans outnumber Democrats 46 percent to 22 percent.--Military Times article.
If these stats hole true, one can look for Hillary et al to do their darndest to suppress votes--military votes, that is. They will, on the contrary, be pushing to allow convicts, illegal aliens, and others to vote, but heaven forbid our soldiers have unfettered franchise.
It has not always been thus, as many soldiers from WW2 voted Democrat. I had a platoon sergeant in Vietnam named Franklin Delano Johnson. I never knew after whom he was named.
The current military crop, however, has become decidedly disenchanted, though not yet disenfranchised. The Democrats know this. For proof, one can note the remarkable length to which Al Gore's legal minions went in 2000 to prevent the counting of military absentee ballots in Florida.
This may be another reason that Democrats keep harping about a draft. It would insure that there is a higher percentage of Democrats in the military. Not only would this help buck up a failing anti-war movement, but it would dilute the effectiveness of the military and their influence as a voting bloc.
The all-volunteer military, active and retired, are a formidable voting bloc to overcome. Look for the Dems to suppress votes. Look for this to further infuriate the military.
