In the late 80’s there was a TV series called “The A Team” starring George Peppard. In that series there was frequently used line “I love it when a plan comes together.” When the left wing bloggers tried to portray Rush Limbaugh as anti military. They did this by totally misrepresenting what Rush said about Jesse MacBeth. In case you don’t remember Jesse MacBeth washed out basic training in the military. He then went on to portray himself as an Army Ranger who randomly killed women and children in Iraq. He was exposed in short order and became silent. During Rush’s radio talk show a caller mentioned MacBeth and Rush referred to him as a “phony soldier.” The bloggers quickly jumped on this and expanded the statement to include all soldiers. Without checking the facts Harry Reid condemned Rush from the floor of the Senate. This wasn’t enough for Harry Reid he then went a step further. He wrote a letter to Mark Mays CEO of Clear Channel demanding the Rush be made to apologize. He also got forty other Senators to co-sign the letter. Apparently Mr. May wasn’t intimidated and listened to the complete tapes of the program. He passed the letter on to Rush Limbaugh.
Whether you like Rush or not, he didn’t get to be the king of talk radio by accident. He didn’t get angry when Harry Reid condemned him from the floor. He laughed at the inept senator. When the senator tried to get him publicly humiliated, Rush did not get angry. Again he laughed at Senator Reid and the forty other senators who signed the letter. He then went on offense and put the letter up for auction. The money raised at the auction to be donated to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, which provides scholarships to children of Marines or federal law enforcement personnel who were killed while serving their country. Rush Limbaugh pledged to match the money raised at auction dollar for dollar. The letter sold on eBay for $ 2.1 million. A sale of this size attracted so much attention that the mainstream media could no longer ignore it.
Now that the whole world has heard about this disaster Senator Reid again goes to the floor of the Senate. Instead of confessing up that his plan to sink Rush has blown up in his face. He now tries to convince the world that he and Rush worked together “in the spirit of bipartisanship.” He even encourages other senators to contribute to this worthy cause.A scheme to discredit Rush Limbaugh backfires and turns him into a national hero. I love it when a plan comes together.
