The Senate on Wednesday rebuffed a measure that would grant legal status to hundreds of thousands of young illegal immigrants if they attend college or join the military. The DREAM act, as they call it, was another step towards amnesty. I say ‘was’ because it was destroyed. But this is the first in a long line of new bills to come for certain. Its funny how they brought up the ‘military’ in this bill. Was this a way to say to Republicans, ‘look, here are thousands of young people to join your army.’ Those Republicans who fell for this, and there were several, should rethink their plans when running for office during the next election. We are keeping records of all politicians who vote for amnesty.
"What good does it do anybody to prevent these young people from having a future?" said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. "It harms children who have done no wrong, and in the long run greatly harms our country."
Obviously Mr. Reid, who has the lowest approval rating in his political history and in the state of Nevada, is naïve and possibly going senile. Illegal is illegal. Beyond that, these parents should have thought about what would happen to their kids if they brought them over here illegally. Did they that their children will be welcomed with open arms because they are kids? Maybe initially. Did they not think that their kids may end up standing on the street corner waiting for some one in a truck to come pick them up and pay them slave wages for a days work? Most likely not. Ultimately, they are still illegal and should not be given the rights that this bill would have given them. They are still young enough to return to their country of origin and apply for citizenship like everyone else. Our tax dollars are not going to support law breakers’ children. Furthermore, its not just the legislation, it is the colleges that are letting illegals in and even giving them scholarships that is the problem. By doing this they are limiting LEGAL students who deserve these scholarships as well as a place in a good school. How many legal students have been denied admittance to universities because their place was taken by an illegal alien? Plenty.
This congress needs to come up with better ways to take care of our LEGAL kids first before they start giving the country to the illegal ones.
