If murderers were all lobbying Washington to legalize murder, would you oppose it? God says "You shall not murder". You can bet Christians would stand up against this and will be heard.
If pedophiles were all lobbying Washington to legitimatize pedophilia, who would oppose it? More interesting, who would not oppose it? I suspect homosexuals would not oppose pedophilia primarily because most pedophiles are homosexual men victimizing young boys. You can bet Christians would stand up against this and will be heard.
If drunks and addicts were all lobbying Washington to abolish DUI laws, and ask for a constitutional amendment that permits one to drink and/or use drugs and drive without liability or risk of criminal prosecution, who would stand opposed to it? You can bet Christians would stand up against this and will be heard.
Sadly, there are way too many who 'profess' to be Christian but only exhibit evidence for maybe an hour or two on their chosen day of church attendance. Jesus said that there are many who are called but few who are chosen. Many will come to him saying "Lord, Lord!" but he will reply "Away from me, I never knew you." Here he is referring to the hypocritical Christians who willingly and defiantly continue to live their lives in sin. These are the same Christians who go to church on Sunday (or ???day) as a couple, are unmarried, and live together in the same house, sharing the same bed. These are the same Christians who go to church and put on a holy mask and once they leave they beat their spouses every other day and twice on Sunday. These are the same Christians who say "Amen" to homosexuality is a sin, and yet tell their office mates that they think homosexuals should be allowed to get married. You can come up with any number of real life examples of unadulterated hypocrisy.
The REAL Christians are those who do strive to live their lives as a reflection of Christ's love, and who, when they fail at any given moment, are immediately convicted in their heart and realize they have sinned. They repent and ask the Lord to help them not sin again. Paul said, "That which I want to do I do not do, but that which I do not want to do is what I do, for sin is in me." The REAL Christian acknowledges that he cannot take a breath without temptation coming in, and confesses to the Lord that he or she has sinned, even though he or she may not even be aware of the sin they did. The REAL Christian will ask the Lord to SHOW them their sin.
In the years prior to late 2004 I had gone through my own personal hell. Raise a Christian, I had never understood what REAL Christianity was all about. In December 2003 the Lord started calling me to be a REAL Christian, and guided me to read through the entire Bible in 25 days. During that time, because I had asked often enough in my life for him to show me my sin, he revealed myself to me through his word. In January 2004 to February 15, I read through again in 45 days. He revealed himself to me this time, and gave me the ability to discern truthful Christian teaching from false and deceitful teachings. Through the remainder of 2004, I read through the bible one more time, during which I rebounded back into sinful living, grew into deep depression, and realized that ONLY HE could save me and restore, and he did in some incredible ways. I am a REAL Christian, and yet I know I sin. Yet because I know it and I confess it to my Lord and he forgives me and makes me holy and righteous through the blood of Christ, I have not only the right, but the Christian obligation to oppose the immorality going on in our country and world, including and especially issues like homosexual marriage or anything else God says is abhorrent in his word. But when I speak out against it (and I have publicly), there is no hate. All I do is tell of God's love for ALL MANKIND, including gays and lesbians, and that His will is that all would be saved. In the same vein, I am opposed to thumping them over the head with God's word - if they don't want to read my writings, fine. If they don't want to ask me why I believe what I believe, I will not go to them and tell them they should stop sinning. They already know, as evidenced by their hatred of Christians.
Why do they hate Christians? Why are their attacks on Christianity so venomous (recall the "GAY LAST SUPPER" ad for the San Fransisco gay rights events)? Because as stated in Hebrews, Truth is sharper than any two-edged sword. It cuts to the heart, through bones and marrow. John wrote in his gospel "Sanctify us by your word. Your word is truth."
They are cut so deeply to the heart by God's word and Christian opposition to their cause because God's word and Christians speak truth. Truth hurts. Yet truth is derived out of LOVE, not HATE. Lies are derived from HATE. And their entire movement is based in lies.
I oppose Christian groups who publicly protest at gay rallies and events. They do no good there, but only cause deeper divisions. Instead they should sit silently on their protest stands and simply pray. I've seen Christians acting like complete boobs on the news during the San Fransisco gay marriage coverage and found myself embarrassed by them. Christian opposition should be silent prayer - let GOD do the shouting. Christian opposition should be communication to their congressmen and representatives. Let GOD use them to cast their legislative votes, or come against those who oppose Him. If the Christian wants to confront the gay or lesbian let him do so quietly, respectfully. If they don't want to listen, as Paul said in 1 Corinthians, "Have nothing to do with them" but still go home and pray.
Jesus said, "Don't cast your pearls before the swine or they may turn and trample you." This means there is no need to share the Gospel with the lost who are not interested in hearing it. If you force the issue, you may get hurt. Look at the venomous, hate-filled responses Christian Protesters get at gay events.
Above all, Christians should take absolutely no physical action against the immoral members of our population. It is not your place. If you do, I pray you will be caught, convicted, and imprisoned with maximum sentence. Instead, keep your hands to yourself, hold your tongue, and silently pray for GOD to perform his mighty miracles he has stored up for these end times, and to bring us all home to live in Glory with HIM.
And He will.
And if you think this is strictly aimed at the homosexual community, you can just as easily replace all such references with references to pro-abortion activists or any other activist group who would go against the will of God and his definition of morality with respect to the groups issue (the so-called TOLERANCE movement).
