There is a saying that is similar to this: "If the blind lead the blind, they both fall in the ditch". For over 30 years, our government has apparently done nothing about the energy crisis. Back in 1973, it was obvious that America should develop an alternative energy source, but what have our leaders done?
How many refineries have been built in the last thirty years? Of the refineries which we do have, where are they located? Are they located in stable, and reliable areas of the country? Or are most of them located in areas that are susceptible to frequent storms?
What about the leaders that we have chosen for office? One such "unbelieving" leader once told us that "we'll have to use less gasoline, and pay more for it". Another leader, whom I considered "ungodly", once said that "America is addicted to oil". Were those remarks supposed to be the answers to the problem? There are other officials, which are or have been elected to office, which have said that they have developed legislation that would establish automobile regulations that would "reduce America's dependence on foreign oil". Did they think that they had done something remarkable?
What happened to America's visionaries? Don't you see the problem here? The leaders which we have in office are either blind, or don't want to provide an energy solution. Since America has a limited supply of oil of it's own, and the foreign oil (which is a bit more abundant) is in the hands of unreliable sources, why have we been basing our energy policy on oil, or what's called "fossil fuels"?
President Kennedy, who apparently was a great visionary, once committed America to reach, walk upon, and return safely from the Moon in less than nine years. Did he know something that the rest of us didn't? If he did, perhaps it was his faith in American ingenuity and resourcefulness. It's been said before, that "where there is no vision, the people perish". So, who has the vision to lead America now? Sadly, I don't see anyone within the ranks of those that are running for the highest office. All they can think of to say is "Americans will have to sacrifice". How? Why? At the expense of the tourist industries? America enjoys our freedom of travel. Perhaps our candidates need help, or maybe we need different candidates all together.
What is our most abundant natural resource? I believe that it is "seawater". All of North America has easy access to seawater, without any worry of "import issues". So, how would seawater help our energy problem? Perhaps the Word of God can help.
In the Bible, a certain person was baptized in water. That same "certain person" also walked on the surface of the water. But none of that seems helpful. However, that same "certain person" asked for several pots of water and turned the water into the finest tasting wine that there ever was. Now that is very helpful.
When JFK spoke of "walking on the Moon", how many of us were skeptical of such an undertaking? The ambitious goal was set first, and the means to accomplish the goal was determined and attained later. So, why not turn our abundant seawater into fuel? Upon combustion, wouldn't it be environmentally friendly?
Can such a task be performed? Yes, in perhaps less than four years. If America puts its righteous mind to any task, it can accomplish anything. In God's Word, God Himself said "Behold, the people is one, and they have one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do", from Genesis 11:6. That means that if we were to use the same determination and resourcefulness as we used to reach the Moon nearly forty years ago, we can develop a cheap and abundant energy source. Give awards to the first entity to develop the fuel, and keep the oil companies "out of it". This would mean new industries, and even new jobs for America. Where there is vision, there is progress.
