In Obama: Foreign family experience helps, it is reported that Barack Obama has had greater understanding of foreign policy issues because "I spent four years living overseas when I was a child living in Southeast Asia," said Obama, who was born in Hawaii and spent four years in Indonesia.
I decided to do a quick little history check on Obama's statement. Biography.com reports in Barack Obama Biography (1961-):
United States Senator. Born August 4, 1961 in Hawaii, the son of Barack Obama, Sr., a member of Kenya's Luo tribe, and Ann Dunham. At the age of six, Obama moved with his family to Djakarta, Indonesia, after his mother remarried. Four years later, he returned to Hawaii to live with his grandparents and attend the esteemed Punahou Academy.
At the age of six until he was ten years old, this man spent extensive time learning about foreign cultures by living in Indonesia.
Listen carefully to this, ladies and gentlemen: He was SIX YEARS OLD when he moved overseas. He was TEN YEARS OLD when he returned. How does a SIX to TEN year old boy know that he must learn how to have a greater understanding of foreign policy issues than others? I have a son who is eight and he has no clue what "foreign policy issues" means, and he grew up during his first six and 3/4 years in The Philippines.
America, we have a candidate, a VERY VIABLE LIBERAL candidate, for the Presidency of the United States and his ONLY foreign policy training is four years in Indonesia as a six to ten year old boy.
Oh that I could take some time off work and dig deeper into Obama and all the other candidates, both Democrat and Republican. This research was simply done on a whim. The point remains, how can we trust (speaking to the liberal readers) a man whose self-proclaimed seniority in understanding foreign policy issues stem from four years in Indonesia as a six to ten year old boy?
Be careful who you decide to support.
