Remember "Bush Lied, People Died"? supposedly Bush rejected the intelligence that Iraq did not have WMD, lied to Congress and went to war anyway. Yet, our supposedly warmonger President has just announced that Iran has halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003. So why would Bush come clean if he were intent on war with Iran, and why on Earth would anyone be so willing to believe the same intelligence organizations that got Iraq so wrong? Compared to Iran, Iraq was an open book and still our brainiacs in the intelligence world got it wrong. Now the peacenicks and the supporters of the Mullahs are hailing the NIE report as the word of God and absolute proof that the mullahs are nothing but a group of peaceful religious scholars.
It's insane that we believe that Iran has nothing but peaceful intentions. Ever since the revolution of 1979 "Death to America" has been a holy commandment to them. They scream that it's their right to have nuclear power(for only peaceful purposes, or course. This in a country awash in oil.) they support Hizbollah threaten to wipe countries off the map. They killed 241 marines in Lebanon, and through their support of the terrorist campaign in Iraq have helped kill thousands of American troops.
Now, gullible congressmen(that is, Democrats) believe exactly that. That we were blowing the threat of Iran out of proportion from the start, in fact most believe that the threat was never there to begin with. They think that it was only Republican propaganda to expand the war. It's Iran that has been threatening the United States, just listen to their lunatic leaders.
Iran admits to trying to get nuclear power. However it's not difficult to take nuclear technology for civilian purposes and turn it to military purposes. Iran wants to be the hegemon of the middle east, and they believe the only way to accomplish that is to get the United States out of the way. What better way to hold the region hostage than to have a nuclear arsenal when no other country, except Pakistan, has them?
Our intelligence community is notoriously inept. This is the same group of people that, during the war with Serbia, used old maps and bombed the Chinese embassy. If we can't trust them to get their hands on the right maps how can we trust them on learning about Irans nuclear program?
Iran has made its intentions clear about what they want. Iran has been urging genocide, practicing terrorism, and waging proxy war for decades. The NIE report doesn't change that at all.
