A Christmas Story - Christmas Is Lights
December 24, 2007 12:00 PM EST

One of my favorite Christmas stories is about a great scientist who went for a walk in his garden one sunny morning. Along the edge of the path he noticed a new anthill and the great activity of the ants who lived there.Naturally, the scientist leaned over to get a better look. But as he bent closer, his shadow fell on the anthill and the sudden darkness terrified the ants. Meaning them no harm, the scientist quickly stepped back and sat on the nearby grass to think. He thought to himself: "If I could - somehow - become an ant for a short time, then I could learn the ways of the ants and I'd be able to tell them of my good wishes for them."
Ever since Jesus was sent, as a baby in a manger, to live as one of us, and as the light of the world, we all have a greater understanding of God's love for us, here in His garden.

Speaking of the light of the world, - Christmas lights are everywhere this time of the year! They're in the post office, on the firehouse, in the stores and on almost every house in town.

Christmas is lights. And, for me, the best lights are ones I see in people's eyes. As you visit folks during the holidays, be sure to watch the eyes of the grandparents, the aunts, the brothers and sisters, your friends and certainly - the fathers and mothers.

Of course, the lights in the children's eyes are more exciting to watch than fireworks on the Fourth of July! Yes, Christmas is lights. And, in a manger, in Bethlehem, was born on that day, the very first Christmas Light.

Merry Christmas to you.
