There was no surprise as to the outcome to this caucus. The funny thing about Iowa is that it doesn’t really matter much except for momentum and a few extra dollars in the winners’ campaign funds. However, it did create a media frenzy.
On the Democrat side, Obama cleaned house. His victory was not a major surprise, but the margin was. Technically, Hillary finished 3rd, by a very small margin below Edwards, but both a big margin below Obama. This is a major blow to her campaign, although nothing is over as she has a good shot at winning in New Hampshire. My prediction is that she might actually come in second there. Obama is feeling victory and may very well continue until South Carolina, where he may actually win again. If he were to win all of these, he may be unstoppable. No one wants 4 years of Clinton anymore. That is obvious. However, is electing a former muslim with his middle name of Hussein the right idea? That would be ironic, especially to Saddam and probably a BIG mistake to the American people. Obama is the candidate for change? Didn’t Eddie Murphy play that role in Distinguished Gentleman? Obama is watching every movie on politics he can.
Huckabee had his night. However, Huckabee has problems. Yes, he will get more money for this victory from contributors now that more people will recognize him as a serious candidate. And to be honest, I like him quite a bit. The problem is, his past. He is a HUGE spender. This does not make me very happy as a conservative. Spending money on stupid programs and increasing the size of the government is a problem. If anything this should discourage any normal conservative not to vote for him. It goes to show you that Iowa republicans do not vote based on this, perhaps because 60% of the vote was evangelical this made him win. But religion is not as important as other key issues. While in Arkansas Huckabee thought it was a good idea to give illegal immigrants scholarships. Great idea Huck. I would never vote for someone with his record on immigration. In fact, he blocked the use of the state police to police illegals. Are we turning the other cheek? I know that Jesus asked us to do that, and I believe in certain circumstances it’s the right thing to do, but I think maybe Huckabee is taking it too literally, we have laws in this country, not amnesty. President Huckabee will be just like President McCain on immigration, forget about enforcing our borders and getting rid of illegals who are criminals, lets just flood this country with everyone including terrorists. For this, neither will receive a vote from me. And perhaps you should consider this when voting. Perhaps Michael Medved should check himself. After all his gloating over Huckabee, he might as well just endorse him. He refuses to, which is quite humorous. Based on Medved’s stance on immigration, I’m really not surprised. Rush really seems to hate Huckabee, but that didn’t seem to change voters minds in Iowa. Maybe they don’t carry his show in that state. But I know they do in New Hampshire and Michigan.
Are Romney and Giuliani finished? No. Romney is in it for the long haul, he has the money, but remember, we had several wealthy candidates in the past, millionaires, and they did not win. However, don’t forget one wealthy candidate did win recently, he is President George W. Bush. Giuliani thinks Florida is his answer, primarily because of the delegates. He wants to grab Florida, New York, California and wherever else he can later on. In reality, he just doesn’t have the money to run in every state. But he is leading in these.
Ultimately, the results in Iowa are interesting, but they really don’t matter. Over the next few weeks we will see how things transpire. We may even see McCain win in New Hampshire and Michigan. If Romney doesn’t finish second in both, then he may be done because Giuliani will be around after these and Thompson is looking good in South Carolina. The one thing that Huckabee has to worry about in the south is Fred Thompson. This is far from over. For all those talk radio hosts who seem to think that it is, I say you are wrong. This is going to be a very close race. I’ve been saying that for a year. We shall wait until Tuesday. But check the results in Wyoming on Saturday for fun! Oh yeah, a choice between Obama and Huckabee is the general election is obvious; Huckabee. Because he and I agree on one thing at least--I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last week, and yes it was quite nice.
