My parents taught me not to take joy from the miseries and sorrows of other people. Now they have a sexy name for it: "Schadenfreude." In spite of all my teachings and admonishments I can’t help but chuckle. As a conservative we are always targets of the press and liberals. Our words are taken out of context and sometimes we are completely misquoted. If we are against illegal immigration we are racists. If we are for lowering taxes it is for the rich. If we are against socialized medicine we are attacking the poor. If we are for self determination we are attacking the poor.At one time the frenzy level reached a congressional level. Without checking the facts Senate Majority leader charged Rush Limbaugh speaking against our service personnel. Without fact checking he and forty other senators drafted a letter condemning Rush Limbaugh. As it turned out Limbaugh publicly made fools of them. He sold the letter on Ebay for 1.3 million dollars and gave it and matching funds to charity.While the conservatives have been targets of the press Democrats have been given a free pass. Senator Byrd of West Virginia a former Klan member is never challenged. He frequently uses the “N” word publicly and privately. Senator J. William Fulbright was openly racist and never challenged. Senator Robert Packwood was driven from the Senate because he “fondled” some women. Bill Clinton was famous for fondling women and given a pass. Gloria Steinem went as far as to say “every man is entitled to one grope. Congressman Mark Foley was driven from office for inappropriate text messages to interns. Barney Frank’s room mate ran a male prostitution ring from his home and was given a pass.

Enough whining and sniveling in this endless primary. We have the first woman and the first black man running for president. Ironically the black man is not running on race. Yes he has pandered to a few black audiences, but he has stayed clear of the Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson crowd. Mrs. Clinton on the other hand has made gender an issue. She has gone from showing cleavage to publicly crying. In spite of running as her own woman she drags Bill out when she is in trouble.

No one including myself thought that Barack Obama would take hold. He won in Iowa and came in a close second in New Hampshire. He is the new darling of the press. The press are actually starting to ask serious questions and not accept spin. It has come to the point where the revered Tim Russert took a Bill Clinton quote out of context. He confronted Hillary with the out of context quote and she challenged him.

I almost felt sorry for Hillary but then I remembered how “surprised” she was to find out that Bill was a philanderer. The press never challenged her. How she couldn’t remember anything about Whitewater, cattle futures and the White House travel office. And who hired Craig Livingstone? She was named for Sir Edmond Hillary six years before he conquered Everest. She complained bitterly about the “right wing conspiracy” and was never challenged by the press.
