If the economy and the war are two major issues in the political campaigns, one wonders how anyone could vote for Obama. (How anyone could vote for any of the Democrats if he seriously wished a happy conclusion from either the economy or the war is also a question to ponder.)
Obama wants to increase the capital gains tax, which would tax profits from investing in the stock market. This would, by his rhetoric, merely tax the rich. It apparently has escaped his notice that all the little people and middle class workers have much of their pensions invested in the stock market. Following the accepted principle that one gets less of whatever one taxes, then one could reasonably expect lower profits from stock investments and thus lower retirement pay outs for those dependent upon pensions to survive and prosper after retirement.
And concerning the war in Iraq, one can lament the number of deaths and injuries, but recent cold, calm, rational statistical analysis demonstrates that fewer young Americans are killed in Iraq than in the same age demographic among civilians here in the USA. Our soldiers, as well trained and equipped as they are, are in less danger when fighting a terrorist rabble than they would be walking the streets in the USA. Especially in Detroit. Military recruiters could honestly use the slogan "Mothers, talk your kids into joining the military and save their lives!"
And we haven't had any significant, known terrorist attacks on American soil since 9/11. It is hard to see why Obama, championing change, would want to change that. He appears to believe the Ron Paul delusion that the terrorists would stop trying to attack us if only we showed weakness, surrendered, and withdrew back inside an erstwhile Fortress America. Anybody who believes that is not fit to be commander-in-chief.
My opinion of Obama remains much the same as it was many moons ago when he first hit the scene: He sure does talk purty, but his ideas are far-left, delusional, and would be harmful to the economy and to the military success of the war on terror if they were adopted.
