Some People Never Learn
January 29, 2008 01:00 PM EST

Someone once said "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result each time." I paraphrase slightly but the message holds. Nowhere is this more true than in politics. Since Plato penned the Republic people have ignored reality and thought up of perfect socities where all the troubles that people have are done away with.

In todays world we find two very large groups of people that believe that if they just have their way the world will be a better place for it. Socialists(or their more die hard brothers, communitsts) have been at it for over a century. Just allow them to run the economy, let them try their crazed scheme and all will be well in the world. It has been tried, that's the problem. It's been tried in Europe, in the former USSR, in Cuba, in China, in Vietnam, in North Korea, and in countless other countries.

No matter how much they try to perfect their system the result is still the same. After all you can't make nonsense work, you can't make 2+2=5, no matter how much you want to. An old joke goes "if the Eskimos went socialist, they would have to import ice." Socialism treats the economy as an equation, or a machine that can be operated from one central location. Yet, the only way a socialist country can survive is by ditching socialism. Vietnam and China were starving nations that had fed themselves for thousands of years. They weren't able to grow enough food until they ended land collectivization and allowed individual farmers to own and operate their land.

Socialism is, at its heart, contempt for the individual. The individual should not be allowed to make their own economic decisions, we- the enlightened- should do it for him. An economy is uncontrollable because it isn't one thing, it's millions upon millions of people thinking and acting for themselves, making their own decisions. Yet in 2008, in America, we have a political party and their candidates that want socialism at home and don't worry about Islamism abroad. They want socialistic health care, more entitlements, tax hikes, and all the rest. Too bad about what the people want to do with their own lives.

They believe the GOP is more dangerous than Al-Qaida. Islamism is really just the Muslim version of this illness, this belief that a society can be made perfect. Every Muslim country that embraces Sharia law falls into the same category: totalitarian, warmongering, and chaotic. Iran exports terrror as a religious duty, Sudan commits genocide against its own people for either being non-Muslim, or for being non Arab. The Palestinians are more concerned with Jihad than with their own people, the Taliban outlawed anything that would allow a person to express themselves or live their lives as they wanted. It's that same contempt for individuality that socialists like Hillary Clinton have. Islamists express it religiously, and socialists express it economically and politically.

In November Americans are going to have to make a choice. Do we want socialism at home? Do we want to ignore terrorists? Do we want to surrender economic freedom and go into a real recession? These are questions that have to be answered. The GOP candidates are far from perfect, but can we allow America to drop its guard? Do we want to follow the path of Europe? Look how that's worked out for them. History has shown that the Democrats domestic and foreign policies don't work, but they are still determined to try.
