I haven't seen such a primary election process since the 1950's and early 60's. I would have preferred the race stay wide open, but I think it is pretty well sewn up by McCain and he'll likely throw a bone to Huckabee to get him off the trail. Time will tell, of course, but some things are predictable, even in politics.
McCain is not anything like he'd like the conservatives believe he is and when he locks up the election, he will thumb his nose at them once again, as he has done over and over.
Huckabee is exactly who he appears to be, self-serving and deceitful, but has bamboozled the evangelicals into his alleged water walking capabilities. If the evangelicals had voted Christian principle instead of hatred for Mormons=Romney, they would have a chance of hope for the next 4 to 8 years. If McCain wins, they lose, if Clinton or Obama wins, they lose it all.
One thing for sure neither, McCain or Huckabee, is a conservative.I don't know how much real conservative anti-McCain backlash there is, but the folks in the Constitution Party, and the Conservative and Independent Parties are picking up membership rapidly. If they can find common ground, they can change the landscape of politics in America. All they need is someone reasonable to lead them and not a bigoted fanatic like Ron Paul.
The DEMs are having their struggles, too and the numerous old-line "Reagan" conservative DEMs are really disenhearted with more Clinton or with their even deeper concerns with Obama.
Time will tell, but, if short term benefit of this mess is to be had, the faithful need to take control of their local and state parties and platforms and hold McCain absolutely accountable, as we should have done with Bush and the GOP wannabe DEMs in the Houses and Senate. Same story with moderate to conservative DEMs, they have lost their party to the socialist left and want to have their party back again.
My first 30 years was as a conservative Democrat, my last 30 years a conservative Republican, and who knows what my next 30 years might be?
Guess we should all be maintaining our cool when all around us are loosing their confidence.
By the way, just what does “suspended” mean?
