John McCain: A Rotten Choice
February 11, 2008 12:00 PM EST

As the results of Super Tuesday settle into the American consciousness and much discussion is made about the direction of the Grand Old Party (GOP), I find myself strangely satisfied by the strong showing of support for Arizona Senator John McCain. My heart leaps at that smarmy little grin he projects across the television as he restrains whatever desire he has to gloat about his success. Mr. McCain, who nobly set his own ambitions aside in 2000, knows that he is the "establishment´s" choice for the Republican Presidential candidate in 2008. Luckily for us, the only real competition to Senator McCain comes from those similar to Mr. McCain in the Democrat party.

Although Mr. McCain has a hard hand to those who have supported him in the past, he truly is the best man to lead Americans out of the doldrums of independence and self- determination. His desire to appease liberals and our brothers down in Mexico is something that many of us little people simply can´t understand because we are not privy to the "big picture" like he is. Face it Republicans we are all part of McCain´s "big tent" political ideology and he, in his infinite wisdom, is our leader. He has shown vision, foresight, tenacity, and ingenuity in his quest to fulfill this selfless ambition to save us all.

Unlike a great many people in the United States, I´ve been lucky enough to have lived in Arizona the last fifteen years. I´ve been graced with McCain´s forthright statements telling me that what I want isn´t what I really need. He rightly told me, and the majority of Arizonans, that I needed more Mexican illegal aliens in my neighborhood when he opposed the border wall and worked his backroom deals for amnesty with the Senator Kennedy. He´s right to offer free healthcare, education, and welfare services to illegal aliens in Arizona. Americans have far too many healthcare options, too much quality education, and we have absolutely no need for government welfare. It´s better to give those things to our friends from the south, since we have so much and they have so little. He was right to disagree with the Arizona Employers sanctions law that went into effect January first. The lack of mariachi music, the sudden cleanliness of the neighborhood streets, and all the vacant homes in my neighborhood alone is unnerving.

John McCain will make a wonderful President. He´ll stop all the abuses taking place in Guantanamo Bay Cuba. Why are we torturing these people when all they ever wanted was to kill and plot to kill Americans? Mr. McCain has convinced me, through his personal experiences, that torture will not save American lives or prevent terrorist attacks on US soil. It bothers me that I couldn´t have seen his wisdom prior to his anointment by Republicans nationally.

Silly me I thought we were endangering ourselves by pumping billions of dollars into Middle Eastern countries for oil. I thought for sure that drilling in the isolated frozen tundra of ANWR Alaska, many miles away from any people, was an excellent way to both reduce our dependence on foreign oil and lessen how much money was being supplied to countries that support militant Islamic fundamentalists that attack our citizens. But Mr. McCain has, once again, enlightened me by revealing that ANWR drilling would only provide a temporary solution and that the number of barrels of oil from ANWR would hardly reduce our dependence on foreign oil. If that revelation wasn't enough he further concluded, by looking at the northern lights in Alaska with Hillary Clinton no less, that drilling for oil in Anwar would be very bad for the environment! Once again Mr. McCain, reading all the conclusive data that only a man of his stature can obtain, wisely suggests that America wait for a permanent solution to our energy dependence rather than waste millions of private industry dollars on well-meaning capitalistic endeavors that wouldn´t be a permanent solution and will likely hurt us environmentally. Whew, what would we ever do without Mr. McCain´s quick thinking eagle-eyed foresight and Machiavellian leadership?

Some may be wondering how I could have such an epiphany toward Mr. McCain after so many years speaking out against the man. I dare say that my love, admiration, and newfound devotion to Mr. McCain after Super Tuesday, is not unlike the devotion of Shawn Hornbeck, Elizabeth Smart, Colleen Stan, or Patty Hearst to their captors. In an ideological sense I, and many Arizonan´s, have been battered, abused, and raped by Senator McCain´s disingenuous candor for so many years that we have come to love the anguish, depravation, and degradation of our ideals. Surely the affirmation of McCain by Republicans across the United States has validated in his mind the repeated trampling of our conservative values. Surely this boost of confidence on Super Tuesday legitimizes his total disregard for the trust and hope many Arizonan´s have repeatedly placed in him over the years. After all Mr. McCain is his own man and anyone who opposes him or wants something contrary to what he envisions is our future, will in time be pushed aside as a stepping stone for McCain to achieve goal may be regardless of the constitution, national security, of loyalty to those who elected him.

I will vote for McCain in 2008. What choice do I really have?
