"The World is Flat", is a book which discusses how the Internet is leveling the playing field around the world. It's why tech support is booming in Bangalore, India, for instance. But that's just an outward manifestation of the flattening playing field. What country has the largest middle class? Not the U.S., but India; their middle class will soon be larger than the entire population of the U.S. What is soon to be the largest English-speaking country? No, not India, though 100 percent of its college grads speak English. Rather, it's China.
The point: English is certainly emerging as THE high tech language in an increasingly high tech world. India and China realized this long ago. Have your kid's teachers realized it? Have YOU? Can your children communicate intelligently in writing? Or can they only write in txt msg shthnd? (Text message shorthand!) The ability to get points across well and succinctly will enable your kids to make a good living, but they also must be lucky enough to go to the right schools, staffed by the right teachers, they must pointed in a useful direction. Now that we're well into the 21st century, are your kids getting that sort of guidance?
If your email and your Internet posts and your other writings sound like a spoiled teenager that didn't finish high school, don't be surprised if that's exactly how you're treated. You will not be able to get or keep many high paying jobs. You will not be able to 'reach' those jobs.
More importantly, do the people we're paying professional-level wages to educate our children know it? Does YOUR kid's principal know it? What is he or she doing to get your child ready? Do you know? Why not?
At all levels of our dear, sweet, caring American Government, want to make this Country a multi-linguistic country. What they are going to get, is the "Balkanization of America" where many languages are spoken by people who will have a tendency to live in similar ethnic and language enclaves.
In the eastern European Balkans, each ethnic group hates all the other ethnic groups.
Just like having many various "China Towns" and "German Towns" etc.
During and after the heyday of Ellis Island, many American cities, but especially New York and Chicago, were cities divided into ethnic and language enclaves. Need I remind you, the various enclaves did not get along, nor was mingling encouraged, and considered as dangerous. Ethnic gangs were everywhere, if you valued your life and property, you avoided crossing gang borders.
Now many American cities, both large and small, are once again divided by ethnic, racial, language and cultural differences… and gang borders.
Multiculturalism without a common language is a breeder of disunity, where many people hate and are suspicious of everyone else ...because they are so different.
Oil and water will only blend together when an emulsifier is added.
Without the emulsifier, the oil always rises to the top, forcing the water down to the bottom.
The same goes for people; one group will lead and prosper, while other groups flounder.
The true acceptance of cultural diversity requires mutual cultural understanding. If two people can not understand each others language, how can they even begin to communicate with each other, except in simple rudimentary ways? Cultural understanding therefore becomes an impossible goal. How can people begin to have 'acceptance' and 'tolerance' and be 'inclusive', when all the diverse cultures can’t even communicate with each other?
The natural emulsifier of a common language is required first.
Have you noticed that right here in America, for many jobs now, a major job requirement is to be able to speak Spanish? Bilingual English and Spanish has become a requisite.
Non Spanish speakers need not apply. This is considered acceptable!?
Have you seen any job openings where English is required, and that non English speakers need not apply? So sorry, you can't do that, ...that's racist!
English is the world’s language for high tech and commercial business and international communications. Not Spanish, not German, not Russian, nor even Japanese. Not any of the many East Indian or Chinese languages or dialects.
All the Commercial Airline pilots and Air Traffic Flight Control operators the whole world over must speak English to fly international flights, or work in international Air Traffic Flight Control facilities.
The world is changing rapidly due to the internet. Lead, follow or get out of the way!
To be able to compete in the 21st century in the business of business you must be well versed in the oral and written language of Business – that’s English.
