One of the cornerstones of western civilization, at least for the last 400 hundred years, is freedom of speech. The idea that a person has the right to speak his mind on political, social and religious issues without fear of being punished by the state for his words. That right is being challenged by a faith that recognizes no rights at all.
Let's be honest, most western leaders are afraid of Muslims. They do everything in their ability to appease them and stay out of their way, vainly hoping that by feeding the beast the beast won't try to make them their next dinner. Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, talks about the inevitability of Sharia law, western writers like Mark Steyn face charges for violating "human rights" for speaking out against the excesses of Islam. Cartoons in Danish newspapers cause Muslim riots around the world.
The Muslims for their part aren't stupid. They know how to play the game in the west. Western elites are so eager to apoligize for anything that if you are able to convincingly play the victim you can receive special treatment.
Muslim leaders are meeting in Dakar Senegal to consider taking legal actions against countries that allow actions that Muslims consider to be "Islamophobic" Senegals President, Abdoulaye Wade has said "I don't think freedom of expression should mean freedom from blaspehemy," "there can be no freedom without limits"
Muslims know all too well about limiting freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press are all virtually non existent in Muslim countries and the Muslims are trying to extend their dark ages to the western world.
Muslims want a "legal instrument" to crackdown on "defamation of Islam" which to a muslim can be anything from mocking their "prophet" to raising legitimate questions about their customs.
When is a western leader going to tell these thugs to shut up? The western elites mock Christianity all the time, and Christians take no action, certainly not violent action. How about when Muslims stop burning and killing people over perceived slights of their faith? Since when did Muslims start caring so much about religious tolerance? This is the religion that persecutes non Muslims, the Chaldean leader of Iraq was killed by Islamic thugs, Islamic terrorists are driving Christians out of the Holy Land. And what about the violently anti semitic programs regularly showed on Arab television?
The fact the Muslims are so quick to violence over any criticism of their faith should tell anyone that they have something to hide, and don't want people raising questions. The last thing Islam can stand is Muslims being allowed to think for themselves on religious matters.
Our freedom of speech supercedes their thin skinned, hyper violent, sensitivity to their faith. The idea of Multiculturalism spawned this cancer, going back to real western ideals, like freedom of speech, will get us out of it. It's time to tell the Muslim world that we will no shut up people who say things that they don't like, and we should let them know it's time for them to allow their people to speak.
