The term fifth column was coined by Emilio Mola, a Nationalist general in the Spanish Civil war. He boasted that he had four columns moving towards Madird and a fifth column already in the city. But the mindset of a fifth column goes back much further. During the American civil war, northern Democrats, known as Copperheads, tried their best to make sure that the south won the war. During the war of 1812 northern Federalists sought to break away from the Union and refused to fight British troops invading the United States. Of course during the American Revolution there were tories who fought for the British, during the Vietnam war Hanoi Jane and other hardcore left wingers did everything in their power to see that communist totalitarianism was victorious, that American troops were maligned as monsters, and that Leninism reduced people to slavery. One can go all the way back to the Peloponnesian war between Athens and Sparta, where Athenians, sympathetic to Spartan Oligarchy, overthrew the Democracy and began collaborating with the Spartans.
We have our own fifth column today, and as usual it comes from the left. What is it about leftists that make them support enemies of their own country? Enemies, that, if they had their way, would be down right murderous to the ideals of the left. In short what makes them collaborators? We've had Democratic congressmen go to Iraq on Saddam Husseins nickel, leftists who tried tobe human shieldsin order to protect the Baathist regime and now theyseek to cause a withdrawl from Iraq that will turn thecountry over to medieval minded murderers. We have former PrseidentJimmy Carter about to go and visit with Hamas. Which only begs the question: is there a dictator or terroristgroup that he won't cozy up to?
The left believes, has always believed, that they can create a utopia, make the world in their image. (Their views have no basis in reality, of course, and when it collapses around themthey insist the plan was perfect. It's reality's fault, you see.)They have no tolerance for countries that don't agree with their views and even less tolerance for theirown country which has rejected thatideal in election after election. That's what enrages them, we're notgood enough for them and if we're not smart enough to see the wisdomof letting them run the country into the ground then they'll just fight against the country.
The Democrats have done everything in their power to see to it that the United States fails in this war and fails to defend itself. A group of people that seeks to inflict damage on its own country can't be trusted with political power. This year, when Americans elect a new President, we should ask ourselves who are we voting for a rank and file member of the fifth column or a patriot?
To allow a Democrat of today to be commander in chief is to invite danger to the United States, and threaten the lives of American citizens.
