Obama on Sex-Ed Again

Sunday Night Barack Obama was at Messiah College in Grantham, Penn. Apparently this little question and answer session was supposed to be regarding issues of faith and compassion and how a Presidents faith can affect us. However, the issue of pre-marital sex and abortion came up.
Recently Obama mentioned that he would consider it a 'mistake' for his 12 year old daughter to have unprotected sex and get pregnant. One of the questions involved this topic. Obama doesn't think that's it's a mistake for the kids to have sex, he thinks it's a mistake for them not to use contraception if they are having sex. He claims that the rise of STDs has to do with lack of contraception and lack of sex education to children of that age. He said, 'And, you know, we should factor in the possibility that they make mistakes in our approach to dealing with STDs, which is what I was being asked about at the time.' Actually, what lacks is parental involvement in their child's lives by teaching them to wait before having sex in the first place. Instead the kids learn about sex (the wrong way) in a school that is required to teach them, not about abstinence, but about how not to get STD's or how not to get pregnant. Obama's might need to take a class on STD's himself. If he is referring to HPV, then he must understand that this particular virus can be transmitted even if a condom is used. He should also understand that STD's such as herpes and genital warts can be transferred even if the condom is used. So, the best action is to teach them not to have sex at all. Especially at 12 years old! How can a 12 year old even consent to sex? They wouldn't be 'punished with a baby', they would be punished with a life changing experience that in fact would ruin the rest of their teenage years and even their 20's. The younger the person is having sex the more prone they are to a promiscuous lifestyle later in life. They are more prone to depression, drug addiction and even poverty. But Obama says 'Use a Condom!'
He continued, 'And we want to make sure that, even as we are teaching responsible sexuality and we are teaching abstinence to children, that we are also making sure that they've got, you know, enough understanding about contraception that they don't end up having much more severe problems because of a dumb mistake.'
We are teaching abstinence, he is right there. But we are not teaching it as much as we are teaching about what to do to avoid STDs or HIV. We are not teaching why having sex that young is wrong, we are teaching how it's okay but only if you use a condom. More money is spent on condom education in sex-ed than teaching abstinence. In fact, it's about 10-1. You can blame parents and teachers for their horrible approaches to teaching their kids about sex. As you know, not every parent teaches their children properly. Or you can blame our leaders for not effectively backing abstinence education as the full proof way not to have any 'mistakes' as Obama mentioned so eloquently above. The baby isn't the mistake, the whole concept is.
