No matter what your stand on the current war, when you meet the veterans personally, you see how committed they are to our country, and how overlooked they are, and your heart melts Hollywood Canteen Veterans BBQ is an innovation of The Beverly Hills Creative Arts Temple, working with the VA to draw together veterans' families from across Southern California for a memorable day of fun.

Andrea Michaels' Extraordinary Events is producing the affair, with a barbecue by Joann Roth-Oseary's Someone's In The Kitchen. Both companies have won multiple awards for their one-of-a-kind events.

"The veterans have unselfishly given of themselves -- it's about time we give something back," remarked Rabbi Jerry Cutler, head of Creative Arts Temple, known as "an unorthodox congregation" with social service as part of its backbone.

Hollywood Canteen is the brainchild the temple's social action committee, led by Jeff Cutler and Joann Roth-Oseary. Last year they put on a fund-raising dinner honoring U.S. veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and members of the Wounded Warriors.

"No matter what your stand on the current war, when you meet the veterans personally, you see how committed they are to our country, and how overlooked they are, and your heart melts," remarked Jeff Cutler.

The committee drew their inspiration for the May 18th event from the famed Hollywood Canteen club that opened during World War II on Cahuenga Boulevard -- where the most glamorous stars of the day volunteered to wait tables, cook and entertain the estimated three million soldiers who dropped in, completely free-of-charge.
