Is Colombia the Israel of Latin America
July 04, 2008 10:00 AM EST

Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez has called Colombia the 'Israel of Latin America.' Well, for once he may be right. Though his point was not right. He said that Colombia is an aggressor like Israel. However, the two democracies are victims. Israel is the victim of rejection terrorists who cross Israel's borders to commit terrorist attacks and who fire rockets on Israel with the goal of eliminating Israel. Colombia is also the victim of leftist aggression for a long time. It has been a target for Communist revolutions, in which Communist terrorists try to destroy the Colombian democracy and replace it with a totalitarian Communist dictatorship like the one in Cuba.

Like Israel, Colombia is a valuable and strategic ally to the US. Israel is a strategic ally against radical Islam and other of America's totalitarian enemies in the Middle East and also votes the same way the US does on Latin America. For Israel is the only country besides the US that votes for the US embargo on Cuba [the US is still the largest food suppliers to Cuba]. The world sympathizes with the Castro brother's oppressive totalitarian dictatorship and does not support America's goal of liberating Cuba. They believe that Cuba is a victim of the US and that the Castro brothers are gallantly standing up to America. Yet Castro is guilty of supporting totalitarian Communist terrorists in Latin America. Castro also supports Palestinian terrorism.

When the Sandinistas had their stupid complaint to the world court, Israel was also at least the only country besides America to vote in the US's favor. The Sandinistas were also portrayed as heroic victims of the US. Yet the Sandinistas also supported Latin American terrorist groups and the Palestine Liberation Organization [PLO], a terrorist group that was dedicated to Israel's destruction [despite their fake recognition of Israel since 1988 the PLO is still dedicated to Israel's destruction, for their widespread propaganda in the Palestinian Authority, which is controlled by the PLO's dominant faction Fatah, calls for Israel's elimination and for terrorism against the Jewish state]. The Sandinista regime also persecuted Jews in Nicaragua and caused at least most Jews to leave until after the Contra victory, which resulted in the Sandinistas being forced to having free elections in 1990. Nicaraguan democracy was created.

Israel is one of the only countries that doesn't believe the victorious Communist propaganda on Latin America. It's ironic that leftists want America to leave its totalitarian enemies such as the regime in Cuba, Venezuela and Iran alone. Yet those same leftists target Colombia. Leftists are hypocritical because while they want to stop the US embargo [falsely referred to as a blockade by it's opponents] on Cuba, leftists want one on Colombia. Leftists including the Democrats in Congress oppose free trade with Columbia, which unlike Cuba, is not a totalitarian Communist police state. Colombia is a free democracy. There are no labor camps nor were there firing squads for dissidents or anyone else the Colombian government dislikes. There are no tourist areas there that were once forbidden to the average Colombian and then everything there becoming too expensive when the ban for Colombians in tourist areas was lifted.

Colombia is a free-democracy. At least much of the left's problem with Colombia is that it is allied to the US and a free Capitalist democracy instead of a Communist dictatorship like Cuba.

Like Israel, Colombia is also defending itself from totalitarian terrorists.

So in that sense, Chavez is right that Colombia is the 'Israel of Latin America' because those two countries are the victim of totalitarian aggression from enemies opposed to the freedom that the US seeks to export around the world.
