It has struck me as passingly curious that liberals are NOT prone to informing us who they are and what they really believe and want for the country when running for office. Barack Obama doesn't appear to be the least bit different in this regard. On the other hand, conservatives are proud of their political philosophy and have no problem whatsoever with TELLING you that they are conservative.

One can only suppose the reason for those differing attitudes is that liberals (or "progressives" or whatever other name they've chosen to be called these days) understand one, salient fact of American politics. We are, when the showdown comes, a conservative nation in the main. Liberals know this and are therefor forced to pretend they have conservative ideas and even ideals in order to get elected and even sometimes REelected. It may have not crossed your notice, but almost every Republican incumbant who was defeated in the 2006 elections was beaten by a Democrat who ran on a basically conservative platform. And, that was because the incumbant was part and party to the "liberal-lite" manner in which the GOP majorities had run the country for the last eight years.

In my own home district, those currently running for the State Senate have signs up everywhere. Only Republicans have chosen to post their party affiliation on their signs. I haven't seen a single Democrat's advertising signthat notes that he or she IS a Democrat. To me, that's just another indication that the Democrat Party (I won't refer to it as "Democratic" since there's nothing "democratic" about Democrats) must attempt to fool the electorate into voting for them. Let's face it. The Democrat Party has been almost completely taken over by the far-left fringe--the Daily KOS, Democrat Underground, Moveon.org crowd now wields more political clout among Democrats than any other group. This has been going on, somewhat under the radar, for some years now. Remember that the last 5 or6 Democrat Presidential nominees have all been at the far left of the political spectrum. Clinton succeeded somewhat in convincing people that he was a "centrist," but he was an unusually astute politician and could read the handwriting on the wall himself and was able to appearcentrist when his heart was most assuredly leftist. Part of the reason for this was that Clinton was saddled for much of his 8 years with a GOP Congress and, whatever else he is, he's no fool.

Barack Obama appears to be trying to do the same thing now that he has the nomination sewed up. I don't think he'll be as successful at it as Clinton was--at least partly because Obama, amazingly, has exactly 147DAYS of Senatorial experience in Washington between the time he took the oath of office and when he announced he was running for President. Before that, he served a few years as an Illinois State Senator--a few years of singularly undistinguised service, I might add. In that VERY limited resume, he STILL managed to compile a voting record that was about as far left as it's possible to be. He even voted AGAINST a bill while in Illinois that would have prevented abortuaries from murdering babies who had somehow survived an abortion. Now you can't get much further left than that, for Pete's sake. Euthanasia of "unwanted" babies AFTER they are born??? Next, the left will be advocating killing kids who cry too much or who throw tantrums.

I doubt that a leftist CAN win an election by being honest about what he or she believes. With the decline of the establishment media and the advent of the blogosphere and conservative talk radio, Americans are no longer held hostage to the lies, mischaracterizations, exaggerations and fabrications of the so-called "mainstream news organizations." If you want proof of that opinion, you need look no further than recent attempts to revive the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" by a Democrat-dominated Congress. The FD is no more "fair" than pitting Michael Jordan in a one-on-one game with a Pee-Wee Basketball player. It's a design by the leftists to shut down conservatives on talk radio...period. The demise of Air America should be ample proof that there simply isn't a viable market for Liberal Talk Radio. No one wants to listen to hours of their country being denigrated when all they have to do to get that is to turn on any network "news" program or read most of the newspapers or news magazines in circulation. These people go to conservative talk radiofor RESPITE from such idiocy.

The point is, if liberalism is so great, whyaren't Barack Obama and others like him shouting their liberal leanings from the rooftops instead of trying to claim that they are not liberals?
