Shareholders to Challenge NCR on Partner Benefits for Homosexuals
April 27, 2005 10:48 AM EST

The first shareholder resolution challenging domestic partner benefits at a major corporation will be voted on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at the annual meeting of the NCR Corporation to be held in Dayton, Ohio.

While legislation outlawing marriages between homosexuals swept the country in last year’s election, corporate benefits paid to the sexual partners of unmarried employees have been increasingly common at large companies over the last several years. These domestic partner benefits are now offered to the employees of over 40% of the companies that comprise the S&P 500.

While ostensively offered to attract a "diverse" workforce, they are typically only used by 1% to 2% of the employees, according to the Human Rights Campaign, an organization promoting the interests of gays, lesbians and transsexual persons. Surprisingly, these benefits have merited only modest opposition by traditional conservative groups.

Tom Strobhar, President of Pro Vita Advisors, who assisted with the resolution, asks NCR Corporation to have more respect for the deeply held religious beliefs and traditions of its thousands of employees and shareholders. Sex outside of marriage has been considered sinful by every major religious tradition for thousands of years. Tom Strobhar said, "Employees should not be forced to pay higher health care costs to cover the sexual partners of their unmarried coworkers."

Pro Vita Advisors has assisted with almost every pro-life and pro-family shareholder resolution in the previous and current millennium.
