Washington, DCJudie Brown, president of American Life League, the nation's
largest grassroots pro-life educational organization, issued the following
statement in response to President Bush's nomination of Judge John Roberts
for the United States Supreme Court:
"President Bush's nomination of Judge John Roberts to the U.S. Supreme Court
has garnered intense reaction from both the pro-abortion and pro-life voices
in our country. There is no doubt that whomever the Senate confirms as an
associate justice will have profound impact on the current laws, most
importantly, the flawed rulings that have made it acceptable to kill preborn
children in the womb.
"It is certain that the pro-abortion lobby will now be out in full force,
attempting to demand a Supreme Court justice who endorses the unrestrained
slaughter of innocent preborn babies. Groups such as Planned Parenthood,
NARAL Pro-Choice America, and Catholics for a Free Choice have already
jumped at the opportunity to assure the public that since they do not view
Judge Roberts as 'their man,' they will not back down without a fight.
"As the extremist organizations and lawmakers who support unrestricted
abortion on demand attempt to make their mark in history, American Life
League urges all pro-lifers to do the same. We must be prepared to respond
to the attacks by pro-abortion forces to ensure that the members of the
Senate Judiciary Committee and eventually, the full U.S. Senate, give Judge
Roberts and all judicial nominees a fair, honest hearing. The Judiciary
Committee's radical, pro-abortion members must be instructed to leave their
deadly agenda outside the committee room."
