An Energy Bill With no Energy
July 30, 2005 10:48 AM EST

By a 74-26 vote the Senate finally passed an energy bill. Too bad they didn't pass a good one. This bill is living proof that nothing brings republicans and democrats together like good ol' fashioned pork spending.

Bridges in Alaska, bike trails in Minnesota, why not have tax payers pay for them? I bet if the founders could remove two words from the constitution it would be "General Welfare" never has two words been so misused by politicians who want to shower their constituents with money to keep themselves in power.

But this bill accomplished nothing, other than providing subsidies and tax breaks at the expense of the tax payer. Subsidies and tax breaks for ethanol, for nuclear power, for oil and gas exploration. This bii will not create jobs, or not enough to make a difference, this bill will not give Americans an energy policy, and it is doubtful to if it even needs one. This bill is claimed to do everything but cure the common cold and help unattractive people get dates.

This bill has nothing to do with energy and everything to do with hogs at the trough. Can something get done without peoples money being spread around to fund some uneeded pet project? Stupid question, I know. Somehow we're all in this together so a pork project in Alaska is somehow the countrys burden and must be shared by all 50 states.

This bill will not lessen our dependency on foreign oil. Personally the only reason I think we need to get away from foreign oilis because the major oil producing nations are fighting the U.S. or helping those that do. Saudi Arabia has the largest oil reserves in the world, and largest reserves of jihadists, or Venezuela which is run by a marxist thug who uses oil money to help other thugs that would cause problems for the U.S. The solution, of course, is drilling for oil in this country especially in ANWR, but that's not included in the bill. So we stifle free enterprise in this country and pay terrorist states for fuel.

As a result prices at the pump will not be any lower. Supply and demand. The demand has outpaced supply so the price is higher. Forbidding drilling in ANWR will not increase supply so the price will not go down. All because a bunch of dimwitted democrats want to protect a big mosqutio reserve in Alaska.

So all in all this bill robs taxpayers, does nothing for energy, and we're being told how great it is because it is bipartisan. Which is just both parties working together to rip us off. If this is cooperation at its best give me gridlock and the parties at each others throats any day.
