We live in a world today where we see things in the medical profession that fifty years ago was only a dream. We have come a long way in medicine and still have much work to be done.
We owe the smartest men and women in the world our gratitude for the hard work and perseverance that they put forth into achieving and finding cures for diseases that once plagued mankind.
Today we still suffer with incurable disease like Aids and cancer, which is probably the worst two. These two diseases are bad and are accompanied by Parkinson's Disease and numerous other terrible sicknesses that we have no know cure for and very limited treatment for.
The debate now is heated up about stem cell research being the next possible frontier of modern medicine that may find a cure for these diseases and help mankind. There are tow types of stem cells which are being explored right now. The first is the adult stem cell which can come from bone marrow and other tissues of the body. The other is the widely controversial embryonic stem cell which only comes from human embryos resulting in the destruction of that human embryo.
We know to date that adult stem cell show more promise of potential cures for over 70 diseases while embryonic stem cell research as shown very little progress as to a cure for anything. The left often misguide the general public about this issue and the news media is notorious for this. It was reported during the presidential debates last year that President Bush does not support stem cell research which was about a big a lie as could be told.
Our president does support stem cell research. Just not the research that involves the destruction and harvesting of human life to do so. He has said that he would support the adult stem cell research and federal dollars to this which has the most potential for success. He said that he would not support embryonic stem cell research which is a vast difference.
Right now the fight is ongoing and people on both sides are lobbying Washington to do something or not do something about this. I suppose that the left wants embryonic stem cells because it involves some type of abortion procedure and also involves cloning which should be illegal forever. It has not happened here yet, but this type of research will only lead to human cloning solely for the purpose of manufacturing human body parts which is just not right.
We do not need this type of research and we do not need to sacrifice one human to save another. The adult stem cell research works and we need to focus on that and not let the left mislead us into thinking otherwise. It kind of reminds me of the fact that it is legal for a human being to have its brains sucked out and called "Woman's right to choose" and it is still not legal to do an animal the same way. If a vet was to do one animal this way, he would probably see a hefty prison sentence. We can kill humans, but can't touch animals. Don't misunderstand me, I am an animal lover; I was just using that as an example.
We on the right have often declared certain leaders in Washington to be on our side but last week we took a plunge off of the deep end when Bill Frist announced his support for this research and many Christians felt betrayed and let down. They viewed him as a traitor that cannot be trusted. I somehow still believe that there is a glimmer of hope somewhere inside of Mr. Frist. Perhaps he talked to the wrong people or let politics get in the way of important decision making that will affect America forever.
I hope that we can get this whole ordeal behind us soon and remember that just because some other country is doing this research that will not be under "peer pressure" to follow the lead. I do support ADULT STEM CELL RESEARCH that will find a cure. This type of science will be of great use while still maintaining human dignity and human life as a sacred gift from the Creator
