When you only have a slight lead and its still the thrid quarter of a football game you don't spike the ball and run off the field in celebration.
But that is exactly what liberals are doing(lucky for the republican congress that liberals are stupid). To hear the list of things that is going to rocket them back into majority status you'd think the election was already over. But when you look at it they don't have much to celebrate.
Tom DeLay- The former majority leader has been indicted on conspiracy charges. Sounds bad doesn't it? Except that the prosecutor in this case is a moveon.org democrat who has never bothered to conceal his contempt for DeLay, or republicans. This loser, Ronnie Earle, gets laughed out of court so often that he probably shouldn't be allowed to practice law. He indicted Senator Hutchinson(R-TX) and the chrages were dismissed on the first day of the trial. This loser even indicted himself, so he could pay a small fine and go on with his little jihad against the GOP. The truth is the majority of Americans don't know what Tom DeLay did, or they don't care. The ones that do already have their minds made up about him. This isn't going to score the democrats any points.
The War in Iraq- Didn't we already have a vote on this last year? Yes support for the war is falling, but Americans don't want to cut and run, and until the democrats can come up with a strategy that doesn't resemble the French Army's fighting in World War Two, they aren't going to get anywhere with this. As the democratic process continues and the insurgency begins to falter, our troops will start to come home. What are they going to use as their slogan? "People were better with Saddam" "Let our troops take a Ba'ath" "Zarqawi might cut peoples heads off, but at least he isn't a Christian, an oil man or from Texas" Until the losers on the left stop having a soft spot for every anti american nut job they won't be able to turn this into a winning strategy, no matter how many people think the war was a mistake.
Oil- Well I can see why the left sees this as an opportunity. After all no one likes high gas prices. But it is their lack of understanding that is going to kill them on this. Since the left doesn't believe in capitalism they think this, like everything else, can be solved by bigger government. Just raise taxes, increase regulations on the oil companies, freeze prices, pretend the oil reserve is a bottomless pit of free oil and we can solve the problem. Never mind that supply and demand won't play along. The oil market is a bubble, and these prices won't hold forever. We need new supplies, like drilling in Alaska, and new refineries. Show me on democrat that is willing to do these things, and I will show you a democrat that won't make it out of the primaries.
The American people- Something the democrats seem to forget is that the American people don't really like them. They have lost the last two presidential elections and the last 6 congressional elections. Liberas have to run from that label like a guy with steaks wrapped around him run has to run from a pitbull. If America were in a liberal mood we'd have President Kerry and Harry Reid would be the majority leader in the Senate.
Lastly congressional lines are so gerrymandered and incumbents have an advantage that it would take an act of God(who they don't believe in) to get them back into power. I think the democrats need to get their heads out of the clouds.
