“People are expressing more hostility, doubt, frustration and skepticism toward Christianity — and this is particularly true among young people.” That’s the informed conclusion of David Kinnaman in a story titled “Avoiding unChristian Preaching” on The Barna Group website (http://www.barna.org/FlexPage.aspx?Page=Perspective&PerspectiveID=30). “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’” (John 14: 6, NKJV). Within the above verse lays the vitality and power of the Gospel. Jesus Christ is THE way to heaven. Friday, May 30, 2008 07:00:00 PM
It seems as if everyone is out to get pastors who dare to tread into the waters of political endorsements. Over the past few days, both John Hagee and Rod Parsley have fallen victim to the Jeremiah Wright Syndrome. Here are the rules of this syndrome: If a pastor endorses a candidate for office, every sermon he’s ever preached will be dug up and used against that candidate, subsequently forcing the candidate to denounce his endorsement. Like most people, I was shocked on Wednesday to learn that Christian singer Steven Curtis Chapman’s five-year-old daughter Maria had been killed after being struck by a vehicle at the family home in Franklin, Tenn. Monday, May 19, 2008 06:30:00 AM
This morning on a Lynchburg radio broadcast a local pastor e-mailed to say that, in the wake of the California Supreme Court decision authorizing same-sex marriage there, he hoped that all homosexuals would just move to California. Sunday, May 11, 2008 10:00:00 AM

Earlier today (Friday), I had the privilege of speaking at the Seventh Annual Israel Solidarity Event held at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C. I was invited to speak by the Ambassador from Israel to the United States, Sallai Meridor. Saturday, April 26, 2008 10:00:00 AM
It’s been nearly a year since my father’s passing (May 15). Since that time I have assumed the pastorate at Thomas Road Baptist Church and my brother Jerry Jr. has taken on the role of chancellor at Liberty University. It has been simultaneously humbling and rewarding as we have succeeded our father in his two most prominent posts. Saturday, April 19, 2008 11:00:00 AM
A recent Government Accountability Office (GAO) report has found that federal workers improperly used several billion dollars on the purchase of “Internet dating, tailor-made suits, lingerie [and] lavish dinners,” among other things, the Associated Press reported. In 1971, I started Liberty University (then Lynchburg Baptist College) because of a dream I believe God planted in my heart. In our first year, we had 154 students and four faculty members, including me. Many people said my dream was an impossible one. But I continued to believe that God had directed me to initiate an institution of higher learning where academic excellence, athletic competition at the highest level and Judeo-Christian values could co-exist. While I frequently speak of the unwarranted bigotry against people of faith in this nation, a recent instance in India has brought to life the severe environment in which many Christians live across the globe. Several weeks ago, Liberty University alumnus Dr. Samuel Thomas, president of Emmanuel Mission International (EMI), the indigenous mission partner of Hopegivers International, was arrested and jailed for several weeks by shadow law enforcement figures in the state of Rajasthan. He was apparently arrested over a book that he had distributed that allegedly contains derogatory references to Hindu deities. Saturday, July 29, 2006 10:00:50 AM
This week we celebrate the Golden Anniversary of our national motto, “In God We Trust.” And while most Americans appreciate the fact that our nation was founded by men who desired to honor the Almighty in their pursuit of national liberty, there are those who wish to completely stifle religious expression — even the most harmless forms, such as our national motto — in the name of diversity. Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich explained the crisis in the Middle East in stark terms that few politicians are willing to contemplate. However, I believe his analysis is accurate. Sunday, July 16, 2006 10:24:07 AM
Every so often, it behooves pastors, church staffs and lay leaders to re-evaluate their methods of local evangelism and church ministry. With that in mind, Thomas Road Baptist Church’s annual Super Conference this year is going “Back to the Future” as we examine the basics of ministry in order to change the future of Gospel outreach. This week, New York’s highest court ruled 4-2 to uphold the state constitution, barring same-sex marriage. In addition, the Georgia Supreme Court reinstated a voter-supported ban on same-sex marriage this week. Saturday, June 24, 2006 10:42:22 PM
Throughout our nation an effort is afoot to eradicate our religious freedoms. This isn’t an idle claim. To illustrate how our religious freedoms are being attacked, I want to highlight just a few of the many cases in which our religious rights are under fire. Saturday, June 10, 2006 08:42:49 AM
A businessman in Arlington, Va., is facing a thorny challenge after he made a workplace decision based on his Christian beliefs. The problem: the man’s action has angered a homosexual activist who is making an issue of his decision. Saturday, June 03, 2006 11:32:26 AM
Since I can remember, I’ve been an avid New York Yankees fan here in the heart of Dixie. I’ve been a follower of the team since the days of Joe DiMaggio, Bill Dickey and Phil Rizzuto. Friday, May 26, 2006 11:50:57 AM
I wish I could have been there to witness it myself. After Judge Joseph H. McKinley Jr. issued a restraining order barring Russell County (Ky.) High School and senior Megan Chapman from including prayer at the school’s graduation ceremony, students decided to take matters in their own hands. (Miss Chapman was elected by students last fall as the senior class chaplain.) Saturday, May 13, 2006 12:27:08 PM
Many have wondered if my invitation to Senator John McCain to deliver the commencement address next Saturday to our graduating class at Liberty University represents my support for his possible run for the presidency in 2008. It does not. Friday, May 05, 2006 09:07:24 AM
The “Friend or Foe” Graduation Prayer Campaign was launched today, May 4, by Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, and me. The concept behind the campaign is similar to the successful “Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign” that we initiated last year. It is appropriate that we announce this campaign on the National Day of Prayer. Sunday, April 30, 2006 08:00:54 AM
What if I told you that a little kindergarten student had made a poster that included a depiction of Jesus and the school wouldn’t allow it to be seen? And then, what if I told you that this had become a legal case that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court? Saturday, April 22, 2006 10:47:48 AM
The four major TV networks have sued the FCC over the federal agency’s March 15 multi-million-dollar indecency fines against them. But the networks are complaining that the FCC “overstepped its authority” in levying the heavy fines. Sunday, April 16, 2006 12:33:29 PM
I would like to tell you about some people who are often treated as if they do not exist. While they flourish as citizens and are active in our churches across the nation, it is as if they lack reality as far as the so-called mainstream media are concerned. Saturday, April 08, 2006 09:45:03 AM
All over the world, Christians are persecuted for their faith. Some are jailed for meeting in non-state-sanctioned house churches; some are beaten because they dare to express faith in Jesus Christ; some are beaten and killed when they refuse to renounce their faith in Christ. Saturday, April 01, 2006 09:40:27 AM
A growing number of people are calling for the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to revoke its approval of the abortion pill known as RU-486. Friday, March 24, 2006 01:35:37 PM
I read with interest a news story this week in which a St. Paul, Minn., official decided to outlaw the Easter Bunny because the furry creature might offend “non-Christians.” Thursday, March 16, 2006 06:27:16 PM
Leave it to the elites of academia to come up with a novel new way to address the modern terrorist movement. Sunday, March 05, 2006 10:44:25 AM
Two weeks ago in this column, I denounced an effort by a group of evangelicals who are calling on congress to enact legislation that would cut back carbon dioxide emissions in order to address the alleged effects of “global warming.” Thursday, March 02, 2006 11:12:23 AM
Earlier today, reports began circulating across the globe that I have recently stated that Jews can go to heaven without being converted to Jesus Christ. This is categorically untrue. |
