An Interview with North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby By Judson Cox, Editor In Chief of The North Carolina Conservative The great object of my fear is the Federal Judiciary. That body, like gravity, ever acting with noiseless foot and unalarming advance, gaining ground step by step and holding what it gains, is engulfing insidiously the special governments into the jaws of that which feeds them. Thomas Jefferson to Spencer Roane, 1821 Tuesday, February 22, 2005 10:46:04 PM
By Judson Cox In an interview with New York Magazine, Rep. Charles Rangel said, "I dont have the slightest clue who Hillary really is. All I see is a gal who knew she was as good as anyone else, and she saw this guy she could make something of, so she forfeited Illinois and went to Arkansas. Thats a hell of a move to make for a redneck, which is all he was." When asked if he really thought Bill Clinton was a redneck, Rangel told WWRL Radio’s Steve Malzberg and Karen Hunter: "Of course he is. He’s from Arkansas." Monday, February 14, 2005 02:49:44 AM
By Judson Cox The day is fast approaching when gay marriage may become legal in North Carolina. This southern state, in the heart of the Bible belt, is set to become the next battle ground in the culture war. In 1996, North Carolina passed legislation to define marriage as between one man and one woman. Unfortunately, much has changed since then. Homosexual unions in other states and a variety of constitutional issues have made that law inadequate. Monday, January 31, 2005 07:30:02 AM
By Judson Cox The scenes from the Iraqi election are fascinating. This is a truly historic day. On the heels of the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, the streets of Iraq are filled with people liberated from Saddam Husseins death camps. Millions of people, freed from the brutal rule of a dictator, up to 70% of all Iraqis are voting! They are dancing and singing, celebrating their new freedom. Monday, January 17, 2005 07:12:57 PM
By Judson Cox Yesterday, Hossam Armanious, his wife Amal Garas and their daughters, Monica (8) and Sylvia (15) were found murdered in their New Jersey home. The reason this family was so brutally murdered appears to be that they were outspoken critics of Islam. The family was bound and tortured, before their throats were slit in accord with the instructions for executing nonbelievers, as detailed in the Koran: (47:4) "Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers, smite at their necks; At length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly Monday, January 03, 2005 07:30:18 AM
By Judson Cox A few months ago, I announced plans to start a conservative, state wide newspaper in my home state of North Carolina. The outpouring of support was overwhelming. The North Carolina Conservative is now a reality! Tuesday, December 21, 2004 02:45:18 AM
By Judson Cox America was not founded on the concept of a wall of separation between church and state, it was founded upon pluralism. The wall of separation phrase does not appear in any of our founding documents; it is taken from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson. To base our laws on the correspondence of Jefferson, rather than the Constitution ratified by representatives of each of the original united states, is in direct opposition to our system of representative government. By Judson Cox I am a baseball fan especially of the Atlanta Braves - so you might expect me to decry the evils of steroid use. Well, I dont particularly care whether or not Gary Sheffield used steroids; he is still one of the most amazing athletes to ever step onto a diamond. Maybe athletes shouldnt use anabolic steroids; maybe baseball should be purged of steroids but, that should be up to baseball. |
