<p>Nobody likes higher gas prices. OK, let me amend that statement. Nobody but the environmentalists like higher gas prices. They hope that if prices soar high enough, say to European levels, they can discourage people from driving. Ever wonder why the only idea the Democrats have is to raise taxes on oil companies? Yeah, that's going to lower prices. ( Read Article )

I've always considered James Buchanan to be the worst president in the history of the United States. After all he fiddled while America fell apart and plunged into civil war. But Buchanan's sin was incompetence, he was a small man in a job that, at that time, required strength and action. Now compared to our 39th President Buchanan looks positively brilliant.( Read Article )

Patriotism, like true love, is unconditional. A patriot might want to reform his country's flaws and fix it's wrongdoings but he does it out of love of his country. He loves it warts and all. The most important thing about patriotism is that while a patriot might object to certain things going on in his country he never sides with the enemies of his country. Fighting against ones country is a job for the fifth column.( Read Article )

The Senate has unveiled a comrpomise bill on immigration that they hope will past muster in congress. They should be worried about whether it will pass muster with the American people. If a violation of the law-a crime- goes unpunished then the law has no teeth and it shows that we don't take the crime all the seriously. Every year one million people enter this country illegally, that is they break the law to do it. Yet sending them back across the border to let them try again there is no punishment.( Read Article )

A civilization with more back bone would have stood up for itself when threatened by Islamic idiots calling for the beheading of anyone who dares to insult their "prophet". Instead government officials are giving groveling apologies that must bring a smile to the appeasers. Idiots on the paleo right like Buchanan think the best policy is to surrender and give our new muslim overlords whatever they want, the idiots on the left like Howard Dean think the same thing. Is anyone willing to stand up for western civilization? In this day and age of cultural relativism, the idea that all cultures are superior to the west, standing up for western civilization is seen as being worse than a nazi.( Read Article )

Samuel Alito is no extremist, but to hear the left wail and gnash their teeth you would think he was the second coming of "Hangman Heydrich" the simple truth is that any judge(except maybe a Ginsburg clone) would face the hostility of the Senate Democrats. The left knows that their philospohy isn't very popular. They have known it for a long time. That's why they try to run as moderates, and try to convince the people that they hold the same values as everyone else. The simple truth is that to run as a liberal, outside of Boston of San Francisco, is a quick way to be handed a loss at the polls. Which is why the left is so in love with the federal judiciary. They can do what they want and they don't have to answer to the voters. I bet Senator Reid wishses the Senate worked along the same lines. That's why they want to stop Judge Alito. Put him on the court and you have four liberals, four conservatives, and one weak minded moderate who can't make up his mind.( Read Article )

Oh, those poor democrats. How awful to be on the republican plantation. After all we brutal conservatives won't allow the democrats to run the place. I suppose not allowing a party dedicated to treason, usurping the law and defeat in war to run the congress is somehow the same as a plantation. ( Read Article )

An article on the Chicago Sun-Times website says that there were 41,577 abortions in Illinois, a thirty year low. Both sides are taking credit for the drop. It's amazinf that the people who so loudly defend abortion claim(with a straight face) that the want, in the new slogan of the era, abortion to be safe, rare, and legal. ( Read Article )

Forget amnesty, or guest workers. Build the fence along the border, don't talk about it, get it done. In fact if the GOP wins in '08(I think they will) that should be first order of business. Building a barrier that all but the most libertarian or left wing wants would be a sure hit. ( Read Article )
