I am often fascinated when reports on a topic converge within a very short period of time. You don't often see mainstream media accounts that deal with the victims of abortion or human embryonic stem cell research. But lately, there have been a number of them, and the reactions have been most telling. Thursday, July 20, 2006 02:53:44 PM
Congressman Henry Waxman would not get my vote for the most pro-life Democrat in Congress. In fact, quite the opposite is true. But his latest antics have proven that even a pro-abortion Democrat can descend to new depths for the sake of his deadly agenda. Thursday, July 06, 2006 06:33:20 AM
A tragedy has unfolded in Pekin, Illinois, where a 3-year old girl was suffocated by a woman who put a plastic trash bag over the child’s head. Dr. Karen McCarron, a certified pathologist, now sits in jail, facing charges of first-degree murder. That a respected medical professional is charged with such a crime is shocking enough; but you also need to know that the victim is her own daughter, and McCarron has confessed to the killing. It sounds surreal, but the numbing fact is that an innocent child’s life has been brought to an end at the hands of the woman who bore her. Friday, June 16, 2006 09:34:32 PM
It is clear by now that the state of South Dakota has a legislature and a governor willing to stand up to pro-abortion pressure and do the right thing. That is why the state became the first in the nation to pass an uncompromising ban affecting all surgical and medical abortions. Friday, May 26, 2006 10:07:56 AM
Some things appear to change from time to time, when actually they usually remain the same. Such is the world in which one finds both errant Catholic leaders and antagonistic Catholic-baiters such as the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. It didn't take long for the proponents of "sexual freedom for all" at Planned Parenthood to latch on to the dissenting comments of Vatican Cardinal Carlo Martini on the subject of AIDS and condom use. Thursday, May 11, 2006 03:24:49 PM
Frantically scurrying to protect its multi-million dollar birth control enterprise, Planned Parenthood has begun taking aim at pro-life forces with rapid fire rhetoric designed to frighten the uninformed. Friday, April 28, 2006 12:17:20 PM
A recent political analysis by Mark Rozell, "GOP resonance with Catholics could well be slip-sliding away," focused attention on what some describe as a fissure between American Catholic voters and the Republican Party. The claim is made that Catholics favor Catholic social teaching on the treatment of the oppressed, and thus find serious fault with the Republican proposition that immigrants who come into America illegally should not be permitted to remain. In fact, according to Rozell, the idea that someone could be punished for simply helping a poor illegal with food or clothing is anathema to Catholics. Friday, April 21, 2006 10:15:23 AM
A variety of news reports tell us that pro-abortion forces are getting ready for a battle of enormous proportions. It seems that groups including NARAL are already resigned to the possibility that the Supreme Court will overturn the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions in the not too distant future. Nothing is quite as sad as the news that a young person has perished as the result of an act of violence. Somehow it is more heart-wrenching to hear of an unexpected passing than it is to know ahead of time that someone with a serious illness is not expected to live much longer. Life is like that; we seem to react in a more anguished fashion when death robs someone of life unexpectedly. Saturday, April 08, 2006 11:42:03 AM
Over the past few years cutting-edge pro-life legislative initiatives have emerged in a couple of states; initiatives that are not the run-of-the-mill incrementalist type, but are substantive in nature. Friday, April 07, 2006 07:38:40 AM
Over the past few years cutting-edge pro-life legislative initiatives have emerged in a couple of states; initiatives that are not the run-of-the-mill incrementalist type, but are substantive in nature. Take, for example, the South Dakota bill, originally attempted a couple of years ago. It failed the first time, but the South Dakota lawmakers did not give up. They tried again, and this year a version of the same bill actually became law. Thursday, March 30, 2006 08:15:00 AM
Cokie and Steve Roberts have established quite a following with their various commentaries on current events. But on the subject of abortion they have gone way too far. Their most recent column, equating the pro-life versus pro-death (they would prefer the inaccurate term “pro-choice”) debate with a holy war between the Sunnis and the Shiites is not only erroneous but also ridiculous. Many years ago I sat at a table in the White House, looking at a dumbfounded President Ronald Reagan. I had just told him that under his administration, research was being funded in the United States on an abortion pill called RU-486. He took the documents from me, handed them to Ed Meese, and said, “This is wrong. Look into this.” Friday, March 10, 2006 02:45:58 PM
Hyperbole dressed up like fact continues to interest me, especially when it emanates from the culture of death’s chief analysts. That’s why William Saletan’s commentary on the future of Roe v. Wade caught my eye. The man presents himself as a serious thinker, and indeed much of what he has written over the years is quite thoughtful even though misguided. His writings have been, I think, most helpful to the more practical leadership in the pro-abortion movement. Sunday, March 05, 2006 12:30:19 PM
If you ever start to think that the world is suffering from a venom shortage, just start a blog and say something controversial. The level of rage that people can muster over the simplest of statements -- in this case, the statement that the morning-after pill can kill a newly-created human being -- is really something to behold. Venom is apparently in plentiful supply. Friday, March 03, 2006 06:00:36 PM

Women are told that reproductive health services are designed to better their lives. They are also told that anti-abortion zealots are infringing upon these services. You’ve probably heard the cries emanating from the pro-abortion crowd. Friday, February 17, 2006 02:05:40 PM
I am flabbergasted and aghast, not to mention madder than ... well, I’m quite steamed. So many news items have come rolling off the Internet lately – indicating a convergence of evil so amazing – that one would think the devil has been put in charge of the entire world. Here’s just one example. Tuesday, January 10, 2006 09:49:54 PM
Recently Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) wrote a scathing commentary for the Washington Post. He took Judge Samuel Alito to task and actually suggested that the judge had serious credibility problems. Thursday, January 05, 2006 11:18:45 AM
It is always fascinating to read news reports about women and pregnancy. There seems to be a concerted effort to present women as superior beings who can exercise their choices in a way that glorifies some perceived power possessed by women. You will read reports of women who went to extraordinary lengths to bear a child, including the use of repeated reproductive technology therapies such as in vitro fertilization. Or you might encounter the popular theme of those women who have aborted “problem pregnancies” and how relieved they were to be able to exercise that “choice.” Thursday, December 15, 2005 06:08:36 PM
It is frequently said that truth is stranger than fiction. In the case of Michael Schiavo, husband of the now deceased Terri Schiavo, this is precisely correct. Monday, November 21, 2005 10:30:26 PM
Some days it seems as though the world has turned completely upside down; nothing makes sense. I just experienced a couple of those days and it has left me nearly — but not totally — speechless. Wednesday, November 09, 2005 08:44:08 PM
Sometimes pro-lifers rival the pro-abortion crowd in their hysterical hyperbole. Such is the case regarding President Bush’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Samuel Alito. Thursday, November 03, 2005 03:31:57 PM
Nearly three years ago, American Life League embarked on a serious campaign. We decided it was no longer possible to sit on the sidelines and watch while public figures, who claim to be Catholic, advocate, support, promote and vote for abortion. Action became imperative. These are vexing times. We have seen the president nominate for a position on the Supreme Court a woman whose record is not just unclear but practically unknown. For many people who describe themselves as pro-life, something just doesn’t seem right. But they’re not exactly certain what that is. Let me explain. Friday, September 16, 2005 12:23:35 AM
There are very few of us who have not heard about "sexual predators," people who victimize children and do so with wretched regularity. Thursday, September 01, 2005 02:06:21 PM
Just a few days ago the most amazing announcement came from the world of medical research. Perhaps you heard about the startling discovery that 28-week-old preborn babies can be observed crying in response to a noise stimulus. Thursday, August 18, 2005 08:53:18 AM
Have you ever had an "I think I know you, but I can't recall your name" moment when you see a familiar face at a gathering? Thursday, August 04, 2005 05:45:01 PM
As a society, we love to count things. In fact, we count almost anything that can be counted. Whenever there are a lot of things to count, official counters seem to pop up, and shout out to the media whenever they've completed a new count -- and it's always headline news, whether it's housing starts, unemployment claims, car sales, import/export tonnage ... or abortions. Judge John Roberts' nomination to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court has people along the fringes, both on the pro-abortion and the pro-life side, so busy positioning for the "big battle" that it almost makes one dizzy. Where do these people get their bizarre concepts of reality? |
