Why these stories of sex crimes perpetrated by UN officials never seem to get wider release and notice is amazing. The MSM are so vested in the idea that the United Nations is somehow the answer to the world’s troubles that abuses by members of the organization never see the kind of focus that Bush saying a bad word to Tony Blair got, for instance. Isn't it generally assumed that when two countries are at war, that it is the right and duty of those countries actually in the conflict to decide when that war might be over and how it is prosecuted? Certainly other nations might attempt to diplomatically intervene to help resolve the crisis but, when all is said and done, isn't it still the duty of the warring parties to arrive at their own conclusions? They try to explain it away as "Evangelical zeal to bring the second coming", or mere bloodlust, but they really haven't a clue... not that their general cluelessness is unusual, mind you. Joe Lieberman is getting the first primary challenge he has had for 18 years in Connecticut's Democratic primary. It is so off putting to the good Senator that he is claiming he will run as a "petitioning Democrat" -- which means as an independent -- if he should lose the primary to challenger, Ned Lamont. There was an amusing story going around right after Nixon's re-election in 1972. As the story goes a New York columnist wondered how Nixon got re-elected as that Columnist had never met anyone that voted for him. This is the same sort of hermetically sealed bubble in which writer for Fortune Magazine, Marc Gunther, seems to live. Now, obviously we should not ask him to resign until the investigation is complete, but it is perfectly sensible to tell him to vacate his position on any committees where he can influence legislation.
